Great forum hope to learn from everyone here

I am just about to buy my first boat what i would like to know is can anyone point me in the right direction for the cheapest mooring around Oxfordshire?

The boat is going to be 22-27ft

Is it possible to get mooring under £650 a year? i know it wont be possible in Oxford it self but how about if you find a really quiet place is it possible then?

Thanks

A bit modest

£650 for 22- 27 ft is pretty optimistic!
You will have to contact local farmers or walk the river in that area to find such a mooring. Don't expect to get a cheap mooring straight away either.

Its possible, most likely anywhere above Osney bridge, quite a few landowners with frontage etc.. theres also Radcot Bridge moorings, Trout Inn etc.. but these are more likely to be in the £1000-1500 range. You can find cheap moorings but you may have to put up with poor access, build your own landing stage, no facilites etc..

Try these guys : http://www.crosscountryparks.co.uk/

One park is just below Shillingford Bridge with both riverside and an inlet cut for moorings. Cheap as chips when we were there in the late '90's; car park, water, electric, hot showers and elsan disposal - all included with no extra charge ; and you could walk to the S.B. hotel and have an evenings entertainment with Gordon. (now wait for the rush!)

Alternative could be Osney Marina; now an education lesson for most of you: "Osney" is not pronounced oz_knee ; it is pronounced 'ose_knee (so drop the h in hose and you've got it.)

Ring Eynsham Lock (is Nick still there?) and ask if they have any moorings going by the weir.

Go over Swinford toll bridge from Eynsham towards Farmoor village - see Oxford cruisers; they have moorings.

Right guys; why don't we write an ebook on Thames moorings?; as it's my idea I market and sell it and take 50% and you lot split the remainder between you.

Thanks for the help everyone

Steve as i said i haven’t brought the boat yet so i maybe interested in yours, if its a good boat good condition and the price is right

Please can you give me some more info

Thanks

I am afraid that is about the cheapest you will find - we are 22 ft and fees were about £950 at Bossoms (on the Port Meadow side) in Oxford - which was reckoned to be cheapest by everyone we asked - The other side is more expensive - We moved to Osney last year as we got fed up with lack of security in Port Meadow and the long walk to drag stuff over to the boat from the car park. Osney is more expensive (£1400 for 22 ft) but much much better

Hi

thanks for everyones advice before

that boat has now been sold a while back had so many probs with the engine it put me off getting another for a while so left it.......... but now just got another boat so back in the game so to speak

trying to find a mooring around oxfordshire or maybe a little outside if anyone knows of anywhere please let me know

thanks

Try Swinford Manor Farm, just upstream of Eynsham lock, website http://www.swinfordfarmoxford.co.uk/ . He was one of the cheapest that I found last year. No connection to above, just found his mooring signs when we were cruising.
Or as No Regrets says consider a trailered boat. Very easy launching at Riverside centre, Donnington Bridge, Oxford. (£30 a year for barrier key) 01865 248673 or Abingdon marina slipway 01235 536147 give them a call first to open the barrier.
I have used both to launch & recover my Viking 22 very easily. I hope this helps.

im just going to leave it along the bank there are a few other boats there might ask if they will watch it for me

one mooring in oxford wants £1600 oh man seems like they want more then the price of gold lol

Expect it to have a chance of going missing, than you'll be boatless.

Is that an option you are considering?

SlimRick

Just tried them but they only take narrow boats

Anyhow just spoke to them today and said they would cover me for £4 week pretty cheap and that covers the boat for everything damage if it gets taken etc

Just booked my little one into Osney marina for the summer £3.86 per meter per week + VAT less 10% if you pay up front. Will be there from the 1st of May till end of September.

Do you need to keep her afloat all year or just fro the summer ? Could halve your costs but you would need a trailer and somewhere to keep it overwinter, Farm / caravan park ?
