After some postings about prices of used yachts in the Netherlands (I'm Dutch) I was asking myself the next (academic?) questions;

1. Is there a country in Europe where boats are cheaper than in other countries?
2. Are particular boats cheaper or just more expensive in some countries?
3. Is it true that non Euro countries are always more expensive to buy (and sail to)?
4. Are boats bought in county A in better shape as in country B?
(e.g in the Netherlands 'they' say: Don't buy English, buy Swedish!)

Probably South African Boats are the lowest prices.

If you sail to a country where the population income is low, everything (the living expenses) are lower than in a country where the income is high.

Quality of SA boats is excellent, world class designers and skilled craftsmen. Sailmakers too.

regards ongolo

what about New Zealand..?

I know it's a bit of a trek but someone thinking of emigrating there,..will they get good value for money or will they find they don't get as much in NZ as they would in GB...??

From what ive seen NZ is reasonably priced. I saw some excellent deals whilst I was out there, but maybe I got lucky?

Ive got no idea about South Africa being cheap/pricey

I live in South Africa and I agree with ongolo for both new and used boats but you must watch quality and if possable supervise construction or employ some one too. Two main centers Durban and Cape Town. One of the builders in Cape Town build for the moorings the charter people so their quality would be OK. I have no connection with boat building just sail out of Durban. If you want more info send PM

Regards
Roger

Nothing contructive to add, I'm afraid. I just wondered why you wanted to buy a whole country? Thats just greedy.

Simple. Pick a country with recession (not so difficult these days). There you will find a good buyers market.
