Cheaper Binoculars with compass - worth it?

I've had a pair of Fujinons for years. Can't remember how much I paid, but they didn't break the bank - and my bank is pretty fragile. All I can say is they do exactly what they're supposed to. I have a vague recollection of them being a yottie comic recommendation.

So I googled "fujinon 7x50" and it seems they go from 250 to a grand.. I guess some banks aren't as easily broken as others... ?

I thought all binoculars were much of a muchness until I inherited a Carl Zeiss (not Jena) set from my old man. Wow. I had absolutely no idea until then just how good binoculars can be. No compass in them, mind you.

As an old f@rt I actually want more light hitting my retina rather than less, especially at night.
You may “want it”, but you almost certainly can’t actually use the extra light - your eyes just cannot. Have a read about how eyes change. Then buy some cheaper binos that will be perfect for you. Sort of like buying 2000hp motors for your 20’ punt. They are expensive and do nothing beneficial for you...

£250+ for bins to use pottering around the Solent on a Snapdragon? Er no. The figure I have in my head is more like £80, but it's always possible I was feeling a bit richer than that.

Me too, eventually replaced only because compass lighting failed. Replaced when in USA by excellent West Marine 'Antiguas' which looked surprisingly similar to the Fujinons. I tried out very expensive designer label Steiners but returned them to the store next day as totally unsuited to my eyes, compass totally unreadable focus something not apparent in simple in- store look see.

I bought a fixed focus set from Aldi for £50 with a compass in about 14 years ago. They are obviously cheap chinese. The lenses are still good, but the rubber has gone a bit 'sticky' as the plasticiser has leached (remove with white spirit I gather). The compass gave up the ghost about four years ago and I'm not aware of an alternative compass capsule that will fit. Shame really.
These look the same as mine in a different colourway with different branding...but same kit

I'd suggest that if having a compass incorporated is particularly important to you that you ask if replacement compass capsules are available. I have no idea if they will be but suspect it will only be at the pricier end of the market that spares are available
I bought a pair of those and they were very good, for a while. Not as robust as the rubber coating would make you think. After a bit of roughish use they went out of kilter and could onl be used one eyed. The optics were excellent.
Most useful for setting up my satellite dish.

another vote for the floating compass including GaelForce ones.
My compass doesn't work after 2 years, but the binocs work great and they do float!
