Cheap / small dehumidifier ?

RIN,

It needs to be level..... and then its OK... secondly, the drain plug into the bucket is the same size as the drain plug into the pipe at the back..... so the bung you'll have removed from the back fits nicely into the bucket outlet /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Richard - I had the same problem.

You unscrew the beige coloured (on mine, at least...) outer cover thing, and then gently twist/pull the almost invisible tiny black rubber plug.

Then I warmed the end of a short length of standard garden hose and slotted it on. It seems to work a tasty treat.

totally agree, in fact after my search I got invited to fill in a survey so told them it was [--word removed--] as well

Thanks NAS, I was having the same problem. I'll sort it out next week. It's kind of obvious really, but then how many times do we miss the bleedin' obvious!

Hi. Following advice from fellow Forumers(?) I bought mine from B&Q for £79.99 and am very happy with the results.

Thanks to all who offered their advice and views - gratefully received and happily followed.

Me too. great little unit and it seems we have all had the prob with getting it to drain through the hose connection. Sorted mine by leaning it slightly but will try the trick with the rubber bung next time i'm on board.

We did the same this year.
Bought a more expensive one (with defroster) for the boat and a cheap B&Q one for home.
Put the boat one over the galley sink and a tube heater between the cabins.
This year, we haven't had any of that damp smell which I believe to be the foam in the matresses etc getting damp.
Thinking of leaving it on all the time.

Just a thought - why dont boat builders fit them perminantly into boats as part of the design. We have reverse cycle A/C but it would cost too much to leave it on. A cheap dehumidifier fitted into a boat would be great as a background control of humidity.

Maybe because they're only £73 at B. & Q. !

I think any boat manufacturer offering a dehumidifier on the options list may want a little more than that...........! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Why do you need one? You have managed the last few seasons without? I have a couple of the white crystalls things that take water out of the air and they seem to work ok, I leave them in the sink incase they over flow? Got the tip off from a previous 285 owner, so far no problems.

I used to use the crystal things but i had 5 on the go and it still felt damp. So I switched to the cheapo B&Q job and it makes a great deal of difference. I take all soft furnishings and cushions home for Nov-Feb and only run Dehumidifier on Low. In Mch I put cushions back on (SWMBO gives out a huge sigh of relief) and turn De-Humidifier up. It works a treat.

A little hint. Put a gel type airfreshener behind the Dehumidifier and it blows a lemon scent around the boat!

Hi James
Yep had no probs last few seasons however since moving to new berth seams that we have more condensation particularly from front hatch. Thought I would try dehumidifier or possibly leave low wattage oil heater on low.
