I bought a set too. The last single router bit I bought cost nearly a fiver, so I reckoned that this had to be worth the slight risk that they are total junk.
I've got [had] a set of those.
Fine for very small runs but regard as single use for more than a few metres of softwood, or any length of hardwood.
They soon get blunt then tend to set fire to the work.
But for a fiver what can you lose?

Agree. For router bits and cutting discs I won't take the risk of sub-standard Chinese 'tool metal'. I can't be arsed with goggles most of the time when I'm routing small jobs and the chance of a high speed bit of sub-standard oriental shrapnel puncturing my eyeball doesn't appeal. HSS drill bits I don't care (for under 8mm) as I usually break the expensive real ones as often as the cheap Chinese ones.
I generally love Aldi, but I passed on these. Most tools are fine, but like Readwald, I draw the line at cheap tool bits. I did get a box of Multitool bits, but that isn't a high speed use.
Cool. I bought the router to go with them (20 Pounds). ]Out of the box it shaft wobbled by no more than two millimeters. Not too bad, that ensures that the bits shall nicely disintegrate on touching wood /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif. Its for sale!!! Any takers?
Oh it was also made in Europe /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I bought a cheap 8mm router and bits from B+Q for £20. It was for routing out soft spots in the transom and knowing that there were the odd bronze/brass screw hidden beneath the surface I didn't want to chip my decent cutters.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the router, it runs true and vibration free, has soft start and variable speed and the plunge action is smooth. The only thing that lets it down is the fence which needed modification to be effective.
The router is light enough to use freehand and I have been using it to trim the new plank ends where they run over the curve of the stem post.
Even the cutters are passable, non have disintergrated on me and if you keep the feed speed low and touch up with a diamond file occasionally they don't leave scorch marks.
I doubt it will last as long as my Makita and spares will be non existent but what do you expect for 20 quid.
As an aside my engineering business used to buy Bosch and Makita 4.5" grinders for around £70 and they would last 6 months before they gave up the ghost [normally gearbox or armature burning out] now we pay £7 for cheap far east ones and they still last for 6 months?

[/ QUOTE ] Plus they aren't worth stealing.
As regards the bits I just thought I'd mention them just in case they're useful to someone on here. I reckon the Lidl tools are generally better than the Aldi ones.
There is a strange hoarding part of the human Psyche that makes a box of bits seem irresistible; Think of all those imaginary jobs I will be able to do in the future. The same for women with those compacts with 10, 20 or 30 little trays of colours, watch them throw out when the 2 colours they use are empty.
Most people will only use one or two of the bits in that set, so why not buy one or two quality bits for the same price, ah, it is not as good value [/scratching head].
I bought a cheap drill set a good few years back, this has worked well in that I now replace the blunt / snapped drills with quality bits. It gives an indication of which drills I actually use, a surprisingly low number. The box also had a load of filler bits, drivers and a counter sink that is utterly useless.
It would have been so much cheaper if I had bought the bits as I needed them.
The only thing I am happy I bought in this way was my socket set, but I spent a lot of cash on it in 1987 and it is still going strong. Over that time I have used most of it. I have added large sockets, better ratchets, but generally this is the only thing I have bought as a 'set' that is worth having.
I am sure I will get shot down from the cheap is best element on PBO, but the old adage still rings true, buy cheap, by twice.
