Cheap Phantom 40 anyone?

Chap bought a weekender brand new, parks it on his drive and has it serviced every year, never uses it but everyone else in the culdesac jhas a boat.

few years later he changes it for a bigger one, without going into all the details this is a true story, some people have the readies to do this and not make the smallest dent in their bank balance.

Just take a look around some of the mooring spots in Southampton and there are dozens of what should be 20k plus boats that are perishing:confused:

Do you think he's being deceitful(if this boat is infact the same boat that sank) witholding the info or is this normal practice, knowing that a surveyor would/should pick up on this?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just don't have the experience of buying a boat yet, though this should be remedied in about two weeks:):)

Not of this size or value though. I wish.

It could be the one that hit Bridge Buoy off the Needles when the skipper who was delivering it from the CI had it on autopilot and went down to make a drink.!! From memory there were not insured either.

I know the full story and the people involved. It was not being delivered from the CI and well........... maybe over a beer!

...
the engines were filled with oil to the top and that was about it apart from some guys from the old Harland and woolfe yard came to rewire it.

... but when the engine were stripped down there was still sea water inside the engines which caused massive corrosion to shafts, bearings, pistons etc, the engines were virtually scrap.

I thought Insurers would insist on a full engine rebuild in order to gain insurance. Only a very 'dodgy' marine engineer would have supported the owner in that course of action

Interesting list of purchases on the ebay seller's profile
Looks like a a refit shopping list

Yes - we were looking at this and thinking "something doesn't feel right".

Looking at the list of purchases on eBay, it's obvious some work has been done on the electrics - so the seller isn't being honest in his description.

I agree with Volvo Paul - wouldn't touch this with a barge pole!!

Maybe it's genuine............

question
Could you please tell me if the boat has ever had flood damage or water ingress. I only ask as you seem to have had a major refit on what appears to be a hardly used boat. If I were to view would you be willing to show myself and a surveyor round the boat?

Answer
No, its hasnt had a major refit it has had the vinyl seats changed to leather and the clothes changed to suede. All carpets and wall panels are original. Survey is present, you are more than welcome to view and bring a surveyor with you.

Regards

Though the water ingress question wasn't answered.

He is a used car dealer .

Quote from his feedback as a used car dealer

"52k miles my arse!been clocked, badly! service doc left in truck adds 100k miles"

Would he make a good boat broker .

It probably explains why its on ebay and not through a reputable dealer. (not that there's anything wrong with ebay as I use it often)
