Cheap Phantom 40 anyone?

So who buys a boat, owns it for about 6 years, never takes it to sea, never sleeps on it, then trades up to a bigger boat?

Somebody with more money than sense?

There's loads of them sat in marinas like that hardly ever see them moving.
Occasionally I have seen one moved by staff onto the fuel pontoon, all covers removed ready, so all the owner has to do is turn the keys, sometimes the owner turns up, has a glass of wine and off he goes back home leaving staff to put it away again.

He got it at 6 months old so could have been an ex demo.......

every tom dick and harry could have thrashed it on demo and then thrashed round to the next boat show, really well run in

But come on, its a great buy for someone :)

It sounds too good to be true and probably is, but when you look at it, its not that cheap, its around trade bid price IMHO and no more, it must be around the price pearl would have offered him in px against his new boat, obviously he got a generous discount on his new boat to offr the p40 at that price.

At 100 hours I could make a list of what would be wrong with 63ps that have been under used left lying idle for all that time.

So a snagging list has never been created, let alone resolved, and its now out of warranty.

I suspect the first time it goes out to sea it will suffer a host of non-engine related issues. Diesel bug being one perhaps?

Just because a boat is cheap does not mean it rubbish? A lot of us have a big chunk of equity in our boats and we might have to convert to dosh very quickly, this is something we don’t always consider when we buy the boat so there it’s a lovely boat and I would be proud to own it, sit on anchor with beer in my hand!

Tom

Lovely boat but not a total givaway.
This one was for sale for ages (now sold). It has similar hours, full spec inc genny/aircon + Rib. Probably sold for about £160K, maybe less?

I'm still saving :(

think that boat originally sank present owner had it refitted and has sat in royal quays for at least 5 years never moved or been lifted out for servicing either from the local royal quays grapevine boats called the buisness.

It looks very nice but would be interested to hear about the history(if any) after what has been written by the previous poster.

DRIFT.

Money.....

Ex boss: after looking at 40 meter super yacht, it was suggested he take a week charter vacation on something similar before buying. He did not buy...

He said "I am a farmer's son and a self made man; it is difficult for me to understand the concept that I cannot spend the interest on my fortune"

He had spent 18 M on a villa in Majorca already in that year.

Keeps the economy rolling....:D:D:D

It could be the one that hit Bridge Buoy off the Needles when the skipper who was delivering it from the CI had it on autopilot and went down to make a drink.!! From memory there were not insured either.

Spooky didnt we have a WTFNS recently about a similar 45ft flybridge ?

As an expert Volvo engineer (alias muckanic to some nerds) and able to sort out teething issues as they occur , would you consider it or not touch it with a barge pole ?

NO WAY would I touch a boat thats been under in salt water.

Remember the squadron 50 that sank of Weymouth a few years back, a friend of a friend bought it, had it shipped to Newark Marina, where it was rebuilt by some grp lads from a plastics company, the engines were filled with oil to the top and that was about it apart from some guys from the old Harland and woolfe yard came to rewire it.

Approx 2 years ago the boat was out of the water at Shamrock Quay, the tanks were rotten, bits of the hull were falling off, the bathing platform looked like a cullender, but when the engine were stripped down there was still sea water inside the engines which caused massive corrosion to shafts, bearings, pistons etc, the engines were virtually scrap.

So no I wouldnt bother even at half the price, I like to go boating and enjoy it.... hassle free!!

Simple to understand advice, thanks Volvopaul :)
You get what you pay for I guess.
I thought I'd found a bargain once (3 year old bayliner) and ended up with heaps of hassle as it had osmosis.

Warning to all those looking for a 'Bargain' , your cash might be better invested in a good quality well looked after boat, even if it doesnt look as impressive at first glance.

It must have had some flood damage if you read the add, its states its had new linings, electrical sockets leather etc etc, and yet has never been anywhere, it just doesnt add up, now why would you need all tha on a relatively new boat??
