Cheap inverter

Spotted this ad for a small cheap inverter, at 50 quid it's a lot cheaper than any I've seen in chandlers, probably because it hasn't got "Boat" or "Marine" printed on the label!

Yo! Rick, someone told me that they were selling then for £14.95 + VAT in Makro's. Quite small but enough for a laptop, TV etc.

I bought one (not from Makros) which powered my old laptop but cant cope with the new laptap would it be lack
of watts or amps or something ? or am I asking the wrong person ?

About 200 watts continuous is about right for any Laptop

Can anyone tell me what wattage type invertor would power a 14 inch colour Tv, I asked in maplins, but they did not know, I intend to buy from maplins electronics.

Depends on the 14 TV.
Check rating of tele, then double it and buy a inverter with that continuous rating and you should be some were near.

I bought a 330W (600Wpeak) inverter and it completely failed to "start" a 14inch TV, was ok with a small 10 inch. Any normal portable you buy on the high street will probably need up about 1kw just to start it even if the continuous rating is as low as 75W. Also because of the type of load the inverter will buzz very annoyingly,
I found the best option was 12V TV, comets do a nice little 10inch for about £140.

Yup.. I'm afraid I couldn't get the 14inch going, you need at loss less energy with 10inches, lasts longer as well...... blimey what are we talking about.

I run a 14 inch TV off a 300 watt inverter OK. What you do need is a good 12v power supply to the inverter. Nice heavy cables and good battery connection, to cope with the inrush. Cigar lighter type power outlet, no good at all.

There's a very good motor accessory shop in Poole. They sell a 330w inverter for £49.95, and have a great looking little LCD flat screen TV, about 9inches I guess, 12 volt, for £150. The shop is called SERVU in Poole High Street.

They also stock packs of 40 AA batteries for 8 quid VAT. I always seem to be going through these things.
