cheap inflatable paddle board... are they rubbish?

Cant comment on the type of paddle board to buy as I have a Red Paddle Co board which are at the higher cost end. However I will say you won't regret getting a paddle board. They are great exercise but equally relaxing if you want to use them to chill. Last weekend I paddled against the tide in Newtown up to Shalfleet Quay for a bit of exercise and then laid on the board and let the tide take me back to the boat in the searing sun. Bliss!!!

In my younger days I was a keen oarsman but I found rowing crew a bit too much like hard work and shifted my focus to single sculls, where my training consisted of sculling upriver looking serious and then, feet up on the rear deck, sculls crossed, head down and allow mind to wander whilst drifting back downriver. The important bit of the technique was to sit up and look serious again just before coming into sight of the clubhouse.

Later, I cut out the 'looking serious' bit altogether and focused on not rowing at all, but that's a different story.

by way of a coincidence our neighbours at Mercury arrived on Saturday with a trolley with 2 brand new paddleboards. They had only just bought them and it was the first time in using them, so I watched with interest. As a result I have just ordered the identical board as them, a Two Bare Feet Entradia 12 (12'0"x 33'x 6") Inflatable SUP Starter Pack and a Sevylor electric pump!

still thinking of getting a little kayak as well to stick on the wheelhouse roof...

That looks a really nice board.

Enjoy and kneel initially. Oh and its highly likely you will fall in, so embrace it!

I am sincerely hoping I take to it like my neighbours did...

Neither fell in, a bit unsteady to start, but paddled away pretty quick (with multiple onlookers) and we later went past them as they were both standing an paddling towards Port Hamble, both looking like pro's... when I spoke to them when we returned the next day they had gone to the blue start café for breakfast and back, neither got wet. Hence why I went for this 12ft board!

I have been following this thread with interest and hired a couple of boards for the day when visiting Poole this weekend. I used www.sandbankspaddleboardhire.co.uk and was very impressed with the service.

We enjoyed it enough to follow other recommendations here and I too have just ordered two boards from Two Bare Feet although I went for the Sport Air XL and the Deluxe Pack as this included accessories such as kayak seat if we want to use them in this way. They will be delivered tomorrow.

As first timers in Poole we covered about 5 nm in the day and fell off plenty but were better towards the end of the day. Sheltered waters would be my tip and we could see why it was so popular round the edges of Sandbanks where it was only a couple of feet deep and hardly any water movement. Spent a lot of the time riding on our knees and sitting down (like a kayak) but standing was best - albeit wetter.

That was Saturday and my leg muscles are only now getting less painful so build up to it slowly. 5 miles at the first go was too much (for me anyway) :encouragement:

Our maiden voyage on our own boards will be in Chichester this weekend so wave if you go past and please pass slowly - I don't need much encouragement to fall off :ambivalence:

that's exactly where it will be made... but probably from the beach... don't worry, I will let you know when!
James, best launch around the back of the harbour under the bridge. I got gissled at by the Management for paddling in the Harbour dontchaknow! Lovely paddle up the creek mind you :D

Do you have suitable silly shorts and floppy hat? Designer shades?

I just looked, that Entradia board is only 10kgs, loads lighter than I thought it would be. From where Tulana will be parked (just a hunch!) to the YSC slip sounded a bit of a lug, but if its only 10kgs then easy peasy.

I'm going to order a board from Two Bare Feet today and I quite like the look of the Sport Air XL design, but it's £50 more than the Entradia and it just looks like the same board. Do you know if there is a difference (the only things I can spot on the website pic appear to be 4 x D rings on the top of the board presumably for the Kayak seat, but then the Entradia also comes with a Kayak seat). Tried ringing them but no answer.........

Have you used yours yet?

not used yet, the sports air xl says 10'10 long.. the Entradia is 12' for my height and weight and novice qualifications I went big for stability!

The one irritating thing is I didn't notice the starter pack I got did not have a leash... that's another £15. the duluxe option gave you a leash and a seat for another £20... gggrrr
