I note from the Cherbourg thread a claim that marinas in France are cheaper than the UK. Based on a trip to St Vaast last week I'm no longer sure that this is the case. We paid 35 euros a night, ex showers at 2 euros a pop that makes a stay just the same as Lymington Yachthaven which while wonderful is by no means the cheapest marina about.

I think for a longterm berth they are a lot cheaper than the UK. >9.5m in Calais is €960 a year Dover would be over £3000.
Visitors rates are about the same as its easy money for them.

Around me, in the Med near Sete, average about 31€ per night but usually terrific facilities.

Long term mooring much cheaper, mine in le Cap d'Agde for a 41 footer 2,800€ per annum including water and electricity.

Can't get that on the South Coast of UK, just as windy tho'

I admit it is a lot further away but mooring a 32'er in the new marina at Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel (Azores) inc electric was 35 Euro for 5 nights....

It was painfull coming back to the UK.

You cant generalise. And comparing the Solent with Cherbourg is like comparing the Solent with the east coast - ie comparing a really high demand area with one with much less demand.

From what I can see the really high demand marinas on the continent are just as expensive as the equivalent over here now that there are more boats over there. Even some marinas in Turkey are up in the multiple thousands for a 35 footer

Its a shame i cant get the columns in a straight line!

You may be right with the rates but the queues at some of these places are longer than those around here in Lymington. Paimpol, eg, has the same people of the list for the past five or six years to my knowledge. You can get a pontoon berth in Lymington for less than all of the above you just have to wait until the next Millenium....

My point was that for cruising berths France is no longer the cheap place it once was.

Hi Richard I am in Cap D Adge visitor mooring been stuck there fo a year fixing the engine Volvo no help at all and the marina keep promising a proper mooring but always some excuse now they want a survey! Costing me around 5000 euros for a 28ft. Any help would be much appreciated as bought the boat in Bouzigue and if I could find a reaasonable long term mooring it would make life much easier. Thanks Ian
