Cheap boat Anyone ?

Sorry for the lack of updates for those interested in more than chit chat ;-) So, nearly three years on and things are finally getting there. All the decks have been lifted and replaced with new timbers and decks, lots of structural beams have been replaced as many were rotten. There is now not a damp or soft bit of timber on the boat anywhere, a mammoth task! She's been totally rewired, with all new electric fittings.
The internal refit is well under way, with only the galley and forward cabin left to complete over this summer. Friday we have a company coming down to measure for full curtains, carpets, and a full tonneau cover. It's not been cheap, and at times we've been pulling our hair out as each rotten part removed uncovered more, but we're finally nearly there!
It's been a long journey with still a way to go, but we've saved a classic Bates Starcraft from the breakers yard, and very pleased we are too!

I'll try to post some pictures.

Thank you, that makes it all worthwhile. I should point out that the heads in the forward cabin didn't exist, it was one big cabin with the sea toilet dumped in the corner! So after the beams and deck were replaced and it was watertight at the rear, the cabin could be refitted. It now has built in cupboards and a full size wardrobe, complete with internal lighting! The new curtains, carpets, and tonneau should be fitted in a couple of weeks. I'll try to get some more pictures online then.
It's a real shame we don't have any pictures of how she was in the past. It'd be nice to keep her as original as possible, so a lot has been guesswork based on what was there. But I do know she had a big refit in the 80's?

And the picture out on the water is just so you can see she's used! The flybridge needs a total strip and re varnish, with a few repairs needed :-) Another job for this, or next summer!

But I do know she had a big refit in the 80's?

Some time around the very late 80s/early 90s she had a substantial refit at Michael Dennett's boatyard in Laleham which certainly included replacing most if not all the flybridge which was rotten. It was however kept to the original design AFAIK. I distinctly remember it because when Vic went to collect her they'd connected up the port flybridge engine control to the starboard engine and vice versa which made life a bit interesting when he cast off :)

I bet! I always thought the flybridge was added in the 80's, but maybe it was earlier? I'm pretty certain it didn't leave Bates like this!

If your curious and want a good day out go to the trad rally at Henley where there is always the Bates Starcraft Owners Club and ask them.A few of the members are highly knowledgeable and know your boat.I don't think their website is operational or updated.
