Many thanks for everybodys help/input. Went for the Admiralty folio in the end.

After searching the web got it from a website called dash4it.co.uk. Cheapest I could find it, arrived next day with free postage. Thoroughly recomended.

It does look like it comes down to personal preference so I think I'll try and both and see where it takes me...

Another option is to look at the electronic admiralty chart pack which give good coverage of a region for a modest investment. Very good for passage planning and establishing waypoints and routes.

I always use Admiralty, not just because I have a full size chart table that will take them but because the Admiralty Chart Agent here in Gibraltar is really first class and any chart I need corrected is dione perfectly and quickly. The same applies to new charts. I have never used Imray and wonder whether they have a correction service and if they do, whether it matches the Admiralty Standard.

I always prefer to use Admiralty charts, though I do have some Imrays too. There is a small craft portfolio for this area which should cover all of your requirements until you want to cruise quite far from home. It does westwards to the Isles of Scilly and eastwards along the coast as far as Salcombe in about 12 sheets with harbour plans and so on, for about £40.

There used to be a specialist chart shop in Falmouth, but since it closed, you can get them from Bosun's Locker in Falmouth.

Imray also do a West Country Chart Pack - similar to Adm. Portfolio but nicer to read, in my opinion.

A 'correction service' is required for the Imray charts to be approved by the MCA. As far as I'm aware it just consists of a website where you can find the corrections and update the chart yourself, but you could probably persuade a chart agent to do them for you for a suitable fee.
