Charter coding. Shore power cable.

Would you expect them to be commented on as part of coding a boat for charter if any were manifestly dodgy looking e.g. parcel tape around them etc.


I would at least expect the person doing the coding to be aware the boat is equipped for mains power and strongly recommend that any cables or installation is regularly inspected by a competent person and tested at defined intervals.

I can only think that the boat I was on did not have the shore power cables in use at the time of inspection.

Hi, Coding seems to be one thing, while electrical shore power cables slip through that particular net perhaps? If the boat in question is a UK Charter boat, and a Registered Company, full Health and Safety framework applies, but and this is the big but, very little is law and most is guidance. Following the guidance is likely to keep you the right side of the law. The cable in question, is subject to “PAT” in old money, in service testing of electrical equipment in new! While the AC installation is subject to Guidance Note 3, EICR territory. Can you write to them expressing your concerns in lay persons terms?

It's not going to prevent people bodging the electrics later.
