chart plotters and navigation

I would prefer if it told me either, or both, ONCE when I opened the app on my phone. Maybe I didn’t make it clear but that banner is there pretty much the whole time app is in use. It’s possible it’s a glitch on my phone, no one else seems to be complaining about it I admit. I’ll see if it’s there on my tablet.
A warning that charts are out of date on every use is perfectly normal and reasonable. They’ve chosen to express that as an offer for updates.

Are you opposed to keeping charts current? It’s not a massive expense at £30 or so.

First time I have ever seen anything like that on the Navionics App ...

Only time I get a small banner - is if I have not updated for quite a while - it reminds me to do so ... but if I don't do it then - the banner dissapears after a few seconds and only shows later when I start up again.

Yes I’d expect it to clear for the duration of the session once clicked so I’ll agree if it doesn’t that’s bad. I know Garmin well and feel confident that’s incompetence rather than intentional. Some projects they have amazing engineers and some they assign the intern.

This reminded me that I used the old Navionics deal to replace a card for “Europe and the channel” with a “UK wide” one for half price. In NI recently I spent quite a while troubleshooting the downstairs plotter to work out why the charts had disappeared. We’d never used it outside of the channel before 🤣

My vote is for Imray Navigator on a iPad, now the recent bug has been fixed. I find it safer to use, clarity for what is important on the chart, useful level of chart detail, But not for racing, not for overlapping legs on a planned route to follow. As a chart and a replacement for tide tables I still like it. Only limited chart areas though.
