chart plotter

Strange question!

Isn't that rather a strange question, bearing in mind you sell them? I wonder what you'd tell prospective customers who ask for your advice?

For what it's worth, I reckon screen definition is one of the key factors influencing satisfaction with chartplotter operation, so the Cobra's 320x240 pixel screen wouldn't get my vote, even at £388. If you're eager to use C-Map Max, the Northstar 557 has 4 times better screen definition for under £400. Or, if you're happy to use Navionics charts, the Lowrance 5150C also has 4 times better definition for around £300. They have 5" screens rather than the Cobra's 5.7", but the higher definition makes up for that.

Incidentally, both the email and website links in your profile are incorrect, so you need to sort them if you want people to be able to get in touch.

Re: Strange question!

Not really a strange question, we havent started selling them yet, and I would want to know everything about the ones that we will sell, so lots of research ahead, but the Cobra doesnt seem to have as much written about it as the other types,
After several hours of trawling through catalogs and web sites I hadnt got as much information as you have just given me, so thank you,
I dont have an email address or web site on the profile so I am not sure what you mean, perhaps I should put them on, though our web site is a bit basic at the moment, web builders are working on it.

Re: Strange question!

Sorry, I didn't realise that the fact that you list the Cobra on your website meant that you hadn't started selling them.

And I see you've now corrected the email and website details which you don't have on your profile! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Strange question!

The web site is still under construction, I wasnt aware that it was available to view yet, and understood that it wouldnt be going live for sometime. Its run by our sister company and I have nothing to do with it. I still order all goods for the shop as a separate entity. The internet sales side wont be coming through the shop, but direct like all the other internet chandlery sites.
Thanks for letting me know about the website, I shall make further enquiries next time I see my boss.

as screens get cheaper and processing power is really cheap I would guess that something with the resolution of these unit s is pretty much on it's way out and wouldn't go near it for that reason.

Cobra might have the best guarantee and local after sales support but I would wary of buying these and suspect that you could get a whole lot more from someone else for the same money.

Also don't forget that you will be looking to integrate your electronics on your new boat so looking at the range on offer, compatability and physical din=mensions will be important when you come to fit out your new boat.

Best to wait.
