I'm thinking about a chartplotter tablet from London Chartplotters - http://www.londonchartplotters.com/ I'd also be using it for email and all the other stuff tablets do.

Anyone got any experience of them and their products? They almost seem too cheap to be true.

They do from 7" to 10" within my budget. &" would have a chance of fitting in a jacket pocket, but for use, it would seem that the bigger the better, though I only have a little boat, so the 10" might be a bit big!. Any thoughts on where the sweet point for size is?

Are the smaller sizes too big to use as a main phone? If so, would I be able to I tether to an Android phone on the odd occasions I need 3G connectivity? (USB?, WiFi?) or would I have to swap my GiffGaff SIM? I'd rather not have to have two SIMs as PAYG data's expensive and I'm not sure I'd get two goodybags a month past the Chief Accountant!

Thanks in advance.

Haven't used them but I also came across their web site. If you do try them out, please post your experiences to inform the rest of us. It looks like a very attractive proposition.

Just look like normal Android tablets to me. Hence how they are so cheap, it's not much less just for a normal tablet. The only difference I can see is presumably that these ones are pre-loaded with some specialist mapping software.

Almost any Android phone with WiFi will allow you to set up a WiFi hotspot, so you can tether (wirelessly) the tablet to the phone, using just one sim card.

Only potential issue is power usage in that case, but if you can have at least one of them plugged in most of the time (swapping over), then you can easily have them both running constantly.
