I have just purchased a geonav plotter which the manual states needs navionics charts. Does anybody know if there are other brands of charts that can be used C map for example?

Nope, I've got a Geonav, it'll only take the Navionics carts. Its not bad, ok screen is a bit on the small side when you zoom right in, but I've found it quiet good on the whole. Marine Superstore do the carts for it.

I have a geonav, and I am quite unhappy, it often seems to lose course and speed and reverts to 5° and zero speed, yet the position tracking is spot on, it will do this at any speed up to 6kts, have you noticed this with yours.

Otherwise this is a great little unit which is full portable.

Cant say I have, but then when I'm going at 4 knots down the river I'm not really looking at it. It shows the same sort of speeds that my handheld shows. So either they are both way out or displaying fairly accurate info, within a knot or so.

I'll keep an eye on it and see if I notice anything and let you know.

Hi,

I bought the same unit last month. You do have to have the Navionics charts, I bought the extra large size map which cover all the South of England all the way to Normandy, Brittany and Channel Islands. Detail is good and I have never lost position. It has a database of fuel stations etc etc.

I got my card (NE392XL is the code) from Maricom at Hamble Point marina at a discount. It was £170 + VAT rather than £199+VAt everywhere else. They can be found on www.maricom.co.uk.

I have the 176C it is brilliant and also takes road maps so that you can dash mount it in your car, good dual purpose gadget.
