i am planning a trip down the caledonian canal from inverness end,
and where can i get a chart for the lochs and any other info on the trip/

You could start by downloading the skipper's guide from the Waterscape web site.

Loch Ness is not really chartworthy - you'll probably hit the sides with your bow before the keel touches over most of its length and knowing whether there is 250 or 200 metres under you is purely academic.

admiralty chart 1791 cover the whole of the canal.

However as the previous poster stated just download the skippers guide, or wait till they get you in the lock and you get a copy in return for you transit fee.

Seriously it is a brilliant place to cruise. Good luck

This is the first bit from Inverness to Urquhart, the rest is much the same, i.e. no danger of grounding, and they will give you a list of moorings on request

When you enter the canal and pay your fee to British Waterways, you will be issued with a key for the toilets and showers and also a chart of the whole length of the canal. Loch Ness does not require a chart unless you are keen to explore deep in to Urquhart bay, however your depth indicator will be enough. Take a little care if mooring alongside new pontoons which some hotels have installed. There may not be depth for a fin keeled yacht.
Its a great waterway and you meet many people from all over. I am sure that if you take your time you will enjoy the many natural attractions.

Are you based at the inverness end now or will you be arriving at a later date?
I am here now and have charts, paper and digital and all the stuff you get from british water ways.
If you give me a PM you are welcome to come over and have a look at them, maybe even borrow them, if you look like an honest sort of chap!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
