Hello, have posted a couple of general questions but wondered if anyone had knowledge or experience of a Frers 40 yacht which was commissioned in the US in 1982 called Charrua. After being built originally for the Admirals Cup and Fastnet races she was later sold and purchased by a new owner who fitted for cruising and renamed Lancer VI. We believe she may have done a little more racing around this time.

We know early history up until the refit for cruising/racing and we know her history under her last ownership but we are very keen for another information about her or experiences of her.

We purchased her roughly a month ago and intend to carry out one or two up grades and changes which suit our needs and thought it would be interesting to have a good picture of her past.

Thanks, Paul.

I have a feeling that she used to be owned by the Fullers in the 1990's, the family that owned Deacons Boatyard on the Hamble. I seem to recall her being there for a time as well.

Charrua

I can't help with her history but I can tell you that "charrua" in Portuguese means a plough and in the past also was a threemasted troop carrier.

I used to race with Roger Fuller on Lancer ( I think IIRC it was Lancer V ) in 1980s.

I don't think its the same boat as yours, as the one I raced on was IIRC ( beautifully ) built by the Elephant boatyard. Originally tiller steered but converted to wheel at the end of its first season.

Roger Fuller was the second owner of Lancer VI and raced her in the 80's we have a picture of Round the Island 83 so I think it might be our Lancer as Roger was the one who renamed her and carried out a number of changes as far as we can tell. The internal refit was done at the Elephant Boatyard a few years later.

Thanks guys for your help so far, it's fascinating finding stuff out and we are considering creating a website to chart her next phase as we will be carrying out a secondary fit internally and some deck modifications.

Thank, Paul

Just to add to this confusion Lancer V was commissioned in 77 designed by Ron Holland she is 41ft so very similar in size - would be interesting to see a picture of her.
