Charity Cycle Ride... looking for forumites to join us next year

happy to ride at the slowest pace personally.... did the coast to coast earlier this year with fellow forumite CPD, and we managed to keep the pace low enough to not miss a single hostelry along the way! :D
See what I meant earlier about not dry it will be my job to get them out of the pub [after due consumption] in order that they can cross the finish line to get their sponsorship money into the kitty.:)

Yes - within reason!

70 miles (relatively flat) at club pace would be ~3hrs45mins - but I suspect this will be an All Day affair ... especially if we use Neil's bottles .

btw Neil - you can get a bottle of red in a normal bottle cage ... believe me ... ;)

It's going to be slower than that - I just put my name down! Need some serious training but I reckon six hours is more realistic. And don't expect me to wear any of that Lycra stuff either!

We'd rather you didn't wear it as well! :D

6hrs would allow the group to ride at a nice steady pace, that any reasonably fit person should be able to maintain without doing lots of training... so sounds sensible....

I did a 50 mile ride at the start of the year with a family group, and one (very) fit cyclist decided to ride on as fast as he could, and at the finish turn around and head back to meet the group again.... he met back up with us as we passed the 29 mile mark!

Hi Gary

As the Thames is my patch I would be happy to support and promote in anyway I can, I may even be persuaded to get my bike out!

Simone

Hi Simone, thanks for your kind offer of support, I'll add you to the list of volunteers and keep my fingers crossed that you decide to join the ride too :encouragement:

thanks again, Gary

Hi all, sorry for going quiet on this one for a little while, the team has been working hard in the background on a number of initiatives to make this as professionally run an event as possible i.e. banners, route plans, t shirts, BHF event manager(s), YBW and MDL support etc are all in the process of being firmed up.

I have an MRI Heart Scan tomorrow to confirm what I already know (that I am fit and well :) ) so will most likely update over the weekend or early next week once the basics have been firmed up. I'll then come back to the forum to ask for ideas on designs for banners, posters and the Just Giving Website I need to have created. I have a sample T shirt on the way from BHF and will post up a picture once we've had it embroided with the Tipsy Mouse, cost per T Shirt is likely to be around £10 which includes a £5 donation to BHF.

Thanks for being patient, will update as soon as I can.

In the meantime, it'd be great to have more riders stick their hands up to participate in the ride and the Beer and Natter at the end.. what more could you ask for eh, a bit of exercise for a good cause followed by a few beers to undo all that good healthy work ;)

cheers Gary

Very much subject to dates, count me in. Slooooooow suits me just fine :). Also, the route passes just by my front door so happy to provide a potential stop-off (Yateley). Real name Alan btw.

Hi Alan, welcome to the ride. the route is still in the process of being finalised and I'll put up the details when that's been achieved. Shouldn't take too much longer :encouragement:

btw, used to frequent Yately alot, I organised a number of carp fishing socials on the RMC lakes around your neck of the woods (Sandhurst, South Lake etc), nice area

Hi everyone, I am very pleased to say that YBW have been brilliant in getting behind this one in the background since we posted this thread and today have created us an Events Section to help manage the arrangements leading up to the event, they will also be helping to promote the event via their news article pages. I am immensely grateful for their support, well done YBW :encouragement:

MDL have also been very active in the background too and I am equally grateful for their support having confirmed we are ok to start the ride at Penton Hook Marina and finish the ride at Ocean Village Marina. thanks MDL :encouragement:

Then there's the British Heart Foundation of course who I am in regular touch with over the phone via one of their event managers.. they are providing support in a number of areas, more details on what that means when I've met them in London in the coming weeks

We also have more supporters from forum members to produce the T Shirts, Banners and the like or simply to roll their sleeves up and help with arrangements on the day for a great cause that is close to mine and other participants hearts (excuse the pun)

I have started to populate the Events Section with a few threads to get things moving.. details can be found here: http://www.ybw.com/forums/forumdispl...art-Foundation

Please drop by every now and then to see how this one builds and please do consider donating or becoming a supporter between now and June 2015, you'll be made very welcome :)

Kindest Regards Gary
