Or is it something to do with them sueing the princess of whales' charity for 25 zillion dollars so they can sell Diana memorablia?
I'm not a fan of royalty (first agin the wall IMHO) but sueing a charity for whatever reason seems a bit mean. Not that there is much danger of me becoming one of their customers anyway.

Diana Charity Freezes Grants

Diana Charity Freezes Grants Amid Cash Crisis

THE future of the charitable memorial fund set up in honour of Diana, Princess of Wales is under threat after it admitted suffering a cash crisis.

The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund has frozen all its grants to beneficiaries and has been forced to approach other charities in a bid to keep its own projects going.

The crisis comes as the fund is embroiled in a costly legal battle with a US souvenir firm which has been making products bearing the image of the late Princess.

Dr Andrew Purkis, the fund's chief executive, said 500 jobs within the organisation and the 120 charities it supports were now under threat.

The crisis follows a protracted legal battle with US company the Franklin Mint.

In June 2000, the fund lost a court battle in the US against the Franklin Mint - failing to stop the company making products bearing the Princess's image.

The fund was left with a £4 million legal bill after US District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper rejected the estate's call for a jury trial on issues of unfair competition, false advertising and trademark dilution.

In November last year, the Franklin Mint launched a £17 million counter suit in Los Angeles against the fund for malicious prosecution.

It claimed the fund's legal action was "merely an effort to damage the Franklin Mint's sales efforts, embarrass it and sully its reputation''.

The fund said in a statement: "This position has put the trustees and former trustees of the fund into the most painful legal and moral dilemma, as to whether to continue grants or retain all such money in the fund until the legal position is clearer.

"It has now been established, in fact, the fund is legally obliged to freeze not only new grants but payment of existing grants.

"The fund is determined to find other ways of honouring existing grants commitments to over 120 organisations and has launched a rescue plan, trying urgently to restore the flow of money to beneficiaries."

Trustees are now entering into urgent negotiations with various grant-giving organisations to discuss different ways of providing for its beneficiaries.

Dr Purkis said: "We are simply not prepared to see this inspiring work destroyed.

"There is no finer memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales than the humanitarian work continuing in her name, and through co-operation of fellow charities and grant-givers we intend that it will all reach fruition."

To be accurate the charity started it off by suing the US firm, and once you get into that sort of thing only lawyers win.

AGree with you on the rest

Oh, I say...

...That's most awfully good. The dragons are really lifelike. For a moment I felt I was standing on a mountain top in middle earth, a beautiful blonde princess by my side.

Yours, Dodi.
