Can anyone tell me if the above looks correct?
I'm not sure if it's better to have the charge leads going to the two outer batteries (i.e. the top and bottom ones) rather than the two inner ones, or does it make no difference?

The boat is 24v and the diagram represents how it it currently wired.
Many thanks if you can help me out :)

It makes no difference. The two - negative terminals are the 0v or zero or ground of the boat, the top two battery + positive are the 24v potential. As long as the cables linking the battery terminals are nice and fat ( think thumb diameter) you should be ok.

Be careful working on the 24v boat electrics if the charger is on you will get more than a tingle at 32v charging voltage.

Generally it is better to change to the charger connected to the top and bottom, but for charging the difference is quite small. What is more important is that the load is connected that way. Even if the link wires are thick and short the batteries nearest the take off point will wear out significantly faster (taking a toll on the others later)

when connecting the battery's according this drawing, you will get
same resistance in every ring,
for achieving equal charge / load / current in every battery
