Finally got round to fitting the new non-asbestos lining for my Pansy MkIII. Seems to be some sort of clay. Anyway, reached the point where the instructions say: "...Allow these panels to dry until they shrink. They can now be manovered into final position. Cut the corner of the cement sachet and apply the contents to the joints".

The cement seems to have gone off, it resembles brittle epoxy. Tried hot water but didn't seem to do any good. No way I'm going to caulk the joints with this. Not that it was a generous amount in the first place, mind you.
So, what can I get instead? Some kind of special heat resistant "fire cement" I reckon? Any chance of getting this stuff at B&Q's?

We use fire cement on our woodburners, yes you can get it from B&Q.

It is easy to apply, nice and sticky, but heat it up gently the first time.

If you go down the firecement route and pick a tub up from B&Q or wherever -just check that you got a fresh looking tub and that its not gone hard under the top 20 mm of compo. Its the sort of stuff that can sit on shelves for too long!

I too use a "Pansy" charcoal heater, not sure what 'mark' it is though. ( 3 years old) I have relined it with a thin sheet of heat resistant material that I bought from a domestic heating firm. A bit vague, but this stuff is apparently a replacement for asbestos sheeting. It comes in various thicknesses and looks/feels almost like polystyrene ceiling tiles on a roll. Cut to size and slide it into the heater for a tight fit. It's been in there all winter without causing any problems. Was about £15 a roll and should last for many replacements. Try asking at one of the big heating companies. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great, sounds quite straight forward then! Not sure if I really need 1Kg but @ £3.93 I'm not going to argue, right?

Pascall Atkey still sell the replacement lining. Only had to slightly modify it in order to fit my rather oldish model. Significantly more expensive than yours though so I'll keep that in mind!
