Changing name of boat.

Never change the name of a boat. Not only is it bad luck but it also destroys a lot of the History surrounding the boat...... Dont do it leave it as it is
Agreed.
Aside from the usual reasons, I always thought that renaming boats shouldn't even be allowed.
That's part of what the poor first owner paid for when buying new, accepting in advance to lose a sh!tload of money upon resale.
When you save that money (or better said, you waste less money), taking whatever name the boat was given should come with the territory, so to speak.

What happens when you buy a boat who’s name was changed by the person who bought it from the first owner? Other than get a very good survey of course! Go back to first name, keep second name or have the name you want but pay homage to Neptune in the correct way?

Good question.
The only boat I ever bought whose owner wasn't the first still had her original name - which I liked btw, so that was a no brainer.
Anyway, I guess I'd go back to first name - if nothing else, for consistency with what I just said...

Thats what a service history is for. You only destroy it if you lose it!

Saying that I haven't renamed a boat after the bad luck with first boat after changing name! Then again it was in a state when bought.

Current boat was renamed before me. The service history shows the change. However, previous owner did fall off the boat and broke his leg. Mmm ?

Make whatever deductions u want!

I am not talking about Service History That is for people that believe pieces of paper in a file. I am talking about normal history that others understand. You know the sort of history that one of the Dunkirk little ships might have or even a much newer boat might have. History not service documentation..... Very different things
