Hi all I have a heritage east 40 twin screw and my question is could I Change it to a duel control rather than having 2 levers for drive and 2 for thrust would this be possible and would it work just as good if not better
If any one has done this let me know how it went.

I think you're asking if you can move from individual gear and throttle levers to a single lever control?

Should be fairly easy, I have single lever and like it.

There is a simple answer yes it should be able but a lot depends on how far and how complex the cable runs are you also require more cables and a dual station device to stop the Ist control driving the 2nd rather than the engine/gearbox this I'd where electronic controls help but are costly
Before electronic controls UK boats used single lever US used single function more as tradition rather than logic.
Single function in my opinion is better for manuvering as you set throttle and leave alone just using gears both controls move at all times and can be moved from unattended station
Single lever is one hand for control and other for wheel but you have to leave in neutral for change over
Try both before changing

Having looked at your type of boat I would suspect what you have is in keeping

Yep, I'm sort of guessing too that your question is about swapping your 4 levers for 2. I'm guessing you have 2 engines

It can be done but there is devil in the detail. You need to buy the single-lever control units eg Teleflex Morse. You can buy a double one, with 2 levers obviously, or buy a pair of singles. This is down to personal choice and how you plan to fill in the holes left in your dash by the old controllers, but most people prefer a single unit with 2 levers. You need to be sure that the cable ends of your existing teleflex cables will connect to the new control units, or you might want to coinsider changing the cables at the same time, if they're stiff. You'll need to patch up the holes in your dashboard.

You could also buy electronic units, at greater cost. These do not have Teleflex cables going from the helm to the engines and so you don't feel the friction of those cables as you operate the controls

Good websites/manufacturers to look at are Teleflex and ZF Commander/Mathers

The boat ia from the USA and has 4 levers I wanted to change this to 2 levers as I think it will be easier. I also have a flybridge so would need to change that as well. thank you all for your advice I will now look into the cost and logistics.
