Changing from analog clock face to digital on board

Lidl has a colour weather station at the moment for under £20. I've got a couple of old monochrome ones that I've found to work well, even on the boat, so I wouldn't hesitate - even if it doesn't last as long, you could buy an awful lot of replacements for the price of something from Oregon.

Do the Lidl ones run on batteries ?

I nearly bought one when they were on offer but I did not go to Lidl that week which is just a well as I have been given one of the Oregon Scientific ones as a b'day pressie. However it runs from a 6 volt mains adapter with batteries as back up. The display is only lit up when on mains power or if the "light" button is pressed when not,
Would not therefore be suitable for boat use

If you do decide to refurbish the old clock with a new movement be wary of the depth available for the spindles, I put a new movement in to the brass clock case on board, ( the clock and barometer were matched in style) easy to do and plenty of choice available but I discovered that the projection just exceeded the depth from glass to face, so I needed to dispense with the sweep second hand to make it fit, still keeps good time but the benefit of the pricier spec. I selected was wasted when I had to modify it.

Living In Germany a few years ago pre- cell phone ownership and not wning a watch, i had an alarm clock that autocorrected on Frankfurt time signal which was great.
Until i went to do a job in Russia.
Clock said no signal so i reset to local time and set the alarm
Sometime in the night the clock did pick up the Frankfurt signal and reset by 3 hours.
After i got up and showered and dressed and left my room i did wonder why no one else was up yet!

I have a radio controlled wall clock which I bought from Lidl and which shows German time - a supply chain cock-up, apparently. The cure is to take the hour hand off and replace it 15o anticlockwise, but I haven't got round to it yet. I'm used to it, but it gives visitors surprises.

The Daily Mail, unsurprisingly, thought it was to do with the clock using German time signals. Bloody European signals, coming over here, resetting our clocks.

Had the same problem recently. Got round it by carefully shortening the length of the seconds sweep spindle.
