I've just had a message from a friend who has seen "somewhere on line" that the ICC renewal form will change in line with Brexit and only allow boats up to 10 meters. Can anyone confirm this? The RYA office is, of course, closed.

I have a sail ICC, but can only use a power vessel up to 10 meters. I wonder if that is how your friend is understanding it.

P.S. nothing to do with Brexit, The ICC is a product of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Inland Water Committee

That's been the case for a while. I think even bigger power vessels were allowed when I first got mine. He was specifically talking about sailing boats as mine could be either side of 10m depending who is asking and which bit of paper I produce!

Obviously different countries interpret the ICC rules differently. In Finland if you take the practical in a sailing boat with an engine, you get both 'S' and 'M' validity. The only size restriction on mine is: gross tonnage < 500 (!). Although the biggest motorboat I've driven was 16 feet long, here's a boat my ICC apparently qualifies me for: Seven Sins

I've been back to my friend and he pointed me to the RYA website where it says that a new form is coming in for the ICC. I've read the link and it only seems to refer to power and PWCs. His interpretation, apparently, came from a blog comment on the Jolly Parrot website which he can't find now. I think I'll just give the RYA a call after the weekend and see what's what.

The length limitation on ICCs has always been related to the ticket you used to apply for it. My Powerboat Advanced gave me up to 10m but my YM Offshore gave me up to 24m.
