I'm in the Netherlands for a few days, by car, and it would be interesting to visit a chandler here. Any recommendations? Somewhere Amsterdam / Zuid-Holland-ish would be easiest, but since a toddler on a tricycle can be anywhere in the country in an hour and a half, location isn't too important.

The best chandlers I have come across have all been in the north I'm afraid. All around the Ijselmeer there are good ones at the various harbours, especially Hindeloopen and Makkum which I know best. There is a large one in the fish dock at Harlingen which is interesting, and also a small one near the station in Amsterdam where I have bought charts and books. Not all the inland marinas in the South have chandlers, though often they have useful small shops mainly aimed at the inland motorboats.

There is a large one in Breskens, if you fancy a crossing on the ferry. We were in Bruinisse last year and there was a reasonable chandlers there too.

There are a couple in Scheveningen at the haven, and further south one at Bruinisse (in the marina) and one at Willemstad on the quayside.

My recollection is that prices tend to be higher than in the U.K.

Marine Discounter in Harlingen, i have just today applied some of their Jotun

The one near Ijmuiden is good - well stocked and you can walk there from Seaport marina without too much grief.
From memory there is also one at Hoorn

Many thanks again, folks. The curse of "maandag gesloten" means we have had to change plans a bit, so no trip north as I had hoped, but ijmuiden looks a definite possibility before the ferry home ...

I'll be back soon, so the suggestions haven't been wasted. Dank u wel.

No shortage of suggestions so little need for another. However, I cannot miss the opportunity to praise the superb service I received from Bob Stok at Hellevoetsluis over a number of years. Chief amongst the extra mile efforts on their part was over our purchase of an RM69 toilet. We seemed to be unknowing guinea pigs for the development of a new version of the toilet, which failed repeatedly. Bob Stok, and particularly his wife, took up our case with the makers time and time again, supplying replacement pumps, handles and bases, and from memory two complete toilets. A truly excellent chandler.
