CG66

Suspect your 2012 is already delisted. They do ask you to amend your details when they occur and selling and buying would presumably come under this heading ; just be a little proactive or would you rather correct the information over the radio when you are in trouble. When we got caught out a couple of years ago the Coastguard passed our CG66 info immediately to the lifeboat . Would have looked more than a little silly if I had recently painted the hull yellow and not amended my details.

Nope, both still active last time I looked and I shouldn't be expected to put someone else's personal details onto a public database - clear data protection issues there. What if they don't want their boat registered? Alternatively they may well have registered the boat themselves which now means there are 2 records for the same boat. I have also registered my current boat and have no idea whether it was registered by the previous owners. 2 records could exist for it for all I know.

Edit:

Just checked, the two boats I no longer own are still registered to me.

Yes you would look silly if you hadn't told them you had painted the hull and you would look even sillier if they were chasing round looking for the person who used to own your boat instead of you because he hadn't been able to delete his information...

Hi

Just to clear up any confusion. You will receive a reminder asking you to check your CG66 details after 2 years, then again at 5 years, after which the CG66 will be deleted if there is no response.

Anyone having any problems with uploading photos please send them to cg66enquiries@mcga.gov.uk with your vessel name and I will attach them for you. You can use this address to notify of sold vessels too.

I hope that helps answer a couple of questions.

Excellent info Bev, many thanks from the collective for responding! :)

Does it not seem a slightly strange idea that you have to register your details with one MRCC? Would a central registry not make more sense? Boats tend to be mobile, and are not necessarily in the area handled by the original MRCC. Here in Scotland, how is your auntie going to know whether your details are held in Belfast or Stornoway?

The database is available to all MRCC's so we can all view all CG66's. For the purposes of administration and for reminders/renewals each station has administrators. We don't have just the one person dedicated purely to CG66's for some of us it is part of our role as watchkeepers.

So why not have one central database, into which we all put our details?

Thank You for the info, it great.

It's easy to do on line... I have not included a photo on my boat as I do not have an image that is a small enough file size.

Hi,
This is a common problem as most of us want nice piccies of our own boats. In this case though, you can trim it down with a free download program called, "Easy Thumbnails"

Very simple to use and you will be able to make the same picture smaller without cropping. Look at settings and you can preset the number of pixels to suit the download limit.

Hope it helps.

Have you checked yours, they are only valid for a couple of years. For those who don't know its a voluntary registration with the coastguard of your boat detail, for use in an emergency. https://mcanet.mcga.gov.uk/public/cg66/login.asp

Hiya Julie,

This is one of those things that I nearly completed but didn't.

In your HRO, (Highly Respected Opinion) what are the main advantages or reasons for completing the CG66?

Part 1 and SSR have boat details registered in central database; where as the Coast Guard seem to be only regional. Which is why I never completed the form even though I had one.:o

Its more personal, photos , equipment, shore contacts, and equipment on the boat, life raft etc. If you were in trouble your shore contacts could be contacted with out numbers going over the VHF etc, they know who to contact. They know your cruising areas and have a fair idea of experience and the boats capability. The guys and girls in the coastguard MRCC are experience boaters in one form or another. They are the only ones who would access the info.
I would like to know someone has details if it all went wrong.

If you made a Pan Pan or Mayday call the information appears on the screens. Without it potentially precious time can be wasted obtaining that info from you.
