Only niggle I have is that it's a fiddly form to fill out with insufficient space for details. I'm sure it could be revamped to be more boozer-friendly with perhaps the inclusion of a photo of the boat.

Other than that, I have no worries about CG66 and anything which helps bring about a speedy rescue is a bonus IMHO. Not at all concerned that this will be used for more sinister purposes. Seems to me that we're getting a bit obsessed with regulation on this forum, to the point of denegrating a very sensible scheme.

There is a downside

The CG know enough about you to ask you to divert to a large proportion of local casualty reports.
The number of floating Li-los I've had to collect with small people on them is legion..., usually the result of the local Atlantic being launched and working.

The upside was chatting up the lass at Milford who was on the CG66.

True. When we were there, they seemed to treat anything that has not been updated in the last 12 months as suspect

Help for Happy1

Hi happy!

Look, someones' got to say it so it may as well be me. I understand from others via others that you are actually a nice bloke. BUT

1) this isn't a converstaion. So you don't need to respond to every single post that you agree, or don't agree. Even if you started the thread. So, in my humble opinion, with the name registration thread you could have put up what you understand to be the situation, and perhaps say "Have I missed anything?". But you responded to every single response, picking up those whom you thought had missed a detail with VERY IMPORTANT and so on. This destroyed the thread - instead of it being a factual thread, it was your personal crusade. I'm pleased it's gone, though it could and should have been useful.

2) Lots of people hereabouts have met each other. Many know each other know each other personally. this doesn't mean you can't join in. but it does mean that it can be a bit like a large and active club - worth joining, but needing a bit of care in the early days. As in a real club, you wouldn't play practical jokes on the very first day, would you? Or offer someone a drink and the very first one was spiked, you roaring with laughter and everyone else saying hmm, bit much really.

Or, when at the bar in the new club, if someone siad "now, who's that in my chair?" you wouldn't say loudly "What a dreadful person, I'll make a point never to speak to him again, obviously an idiot!" - but you've done all these things, within a week of joining, compiling a list of "useless people" which is firstly a bit rude, and secondly somewhat badly informed - as in real life threads often "go humourous" though ususally once the main question has been answered - like having a joke with a client at the end of a meeting, or chatting at the end of a doctors appointment and so on. Of course some threads are obviously humourous from the start - and that's fine too.

3) with factual stuff, you have to be very blimmin sure before you dish out "facts". So, you guessed at the fact that you needed part1 registration to fly a blue ensign - but someone has corrected it. Twould have been better and more constructively to say "i belive that .....is that right?" and then someone corrected. Or, they agreed and said yes, and. This would show you to be a less full-on or less bombastic (and now, reliably wrong) contributor.

4) These forums rightly love newbies. In fact newbies who are also newbies to boating are amonst our most favourite. But dare I say, it's unlikely that you'll be an authority on much of boating. Ever. Because you have one boat, and use it in one area, there's all of sailing, commercial shipping, plenty of regulation, the practical side of regulation, plus millions of square miles that you won't know about - and that others will know more. Even if you go somewhere, the one aspect on which you can be truly authoratative is merely - your opinion. Not any facts - other than (at the time) it cost this much for a night, that much for fuel. Everything else is an opinion.

5) The style of ones text is *fairly* (but not very, or very very etc) important. Long, easy sentences, with commas here and there read easily and gently. But it reads more like a comic book if (as you do) use "emoticons" all over. Excessive use of these means that they are worthless - simply annoying, and you'll notice that most others use them sparingly, if at all. Please stop using emoticons in every single post. And don't use "lol" either, as a way of attempting to mollify your text. It's driving us mad. You only need to use a smiley to make it clear that something appears nasty - is not an attack. Eg. So, that proves it - you know nothing at all about this subject! :) See? But you do not need to use emoticons or smileys if the sentence could not be taken badly. "I went for a ride in the boat with my girlfiend and we had a great time /forums/images/icons/smile.gif " is simply painful. Please?

6) it's a right pain posting things on more than one forum. The only valid use of this I have seen is a very very rapidly spreading computer virus, I think Byron a year or so back. Otherwise, reagardless of whether it affects stinkies and raggies, put it up on one or t'other. It was certainly of zero interest to more than one forum that you dropped one name and began using another.

7) there no limit on posting, as there was on ribnet. Now , bit much me popping at peeps posting a lot!, ahem But you're posting zillions in the same thread - which makes - the thread drown in a sea of Happy1 posts. try starting a thread, and letting it run a bit? Mebbe?

8) I have failed to follow most of these suggestions, lots of times! But if you plan to post a lot, then I (and from the amount of PMs, many others) would like to discuss opinions, experinces, hopes, copncerns and all things boaty and quasi-boatie (not sure what a quasi-boatie thing is, but anyway) WITHOUT you feeling that you'll stoutly defend a position, and in that saying well no i don't agree etc that they have to attack you- or that you feel that you bounce in to subsume their opinion.

All meant in good humour!

Re: Help for Happy1

OK I am replying, I have a right (I think) /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I agree in part with some of what you said, the rest is TOSH and NONSENCE. Seeing what I have in some of your silly bitchy comments, perhaps a look in the mirror would be a start for you. My respect for you at the moment is ZILCH, BUT I have heard from others that you are OK, given time it may grow, so if you apologise we may start to get on.

Oh! you forgot to mention any of the useful stuff I have put on, but then that's your style /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Live and let live it's a free world.

I don't mind being on his list of useless people. I'm on my wife's list of useless people too. I'm used to it.

Re: Help for Happy1

I apologise as always if causing offence.

But there remains no need at all for the personal abuse that you have slung around the forums in an unprecendented and generalised manner. What's the point?

If you do want to have a pop at someone, it's always better to do so carefully, wacthing your grammar and spelling more than in normal chat, using wit and humour. Otherwise it's just NONSENCE. See?

At least we've got as far as me believeing via others that you are ok. And you understand the same about me via similarly circuitous routes. So why slam in with the personal abuse? Again?

Separately, use of the emoticons makes you appear to have a poorer grasp of English than you do. Honestly, it not merely me with this opinion.

Finally I am unaware of any truly "useful"stuff you have put up. Of course, it's not often that truly "useful" stuff is put up anyway - much of it interesting. Your recent posts have been references to lousy and badly-maintained databases, haven't they, and some of it incorrect "facts". So, not really useful. But interesting. Well, fairly interesting. Okay, they were boring. Very boring. VERY VERY VERY VERY boring.
Look, I only made the post to help you. You know when you'rein the pub, or at the coffee machine having a chat and "oh chripes here comes that nerk again, let's pretend we're leaving now" ? That's you, that is.

Apologies again for causing offence. Shall we pack this in?

Re: Help for Happy1

Happy, suggest that you take the look in the mirror.

I now know that you are real and some of your posts have been interesting but when you wait for a response and find none forthcoming it does get a bit tedious for you to reply yourself.

I too have had PMs following my earlier pulled thread asking whether you were real or not. Unfortunately you have rather got up the noses of many of the peeps on here, all of whom stated they wanted nothing further to do with any of your postings. Now that's a shame isn't it? Seemed that after Kim rightly pulled that thread you calmed down somewhat and it seemed that we could all get on with enjoying a great forum.

But it seems that you cannot resist telling everyone how knowledgeable you are which is great when answering a question but not so good when you start the thread.

Also why not fill in your profile so we know a little more about you, I personally don't like it when peeps hide when attacking others.

All IMHO and without malice.

Dear Happy1

Things about TCM.

He's a very nice man
He makes you take your shoes off
He supports an OK rugby team (but not the best by any means)
He knows quite a lot about quite a lot
The tender to his boat is bigger than my yacht
His dislike of bad spelling and grammar is only because he is sickeningly good at it himself.
His dislike of chads and upper case is widely shared. They should be used sparingly and for good reason.
He has a wicked sense of humour (see Kingfisher posts for proof)
He is trying to be helpful. Honest

Eloquently Put TCM, I think you\'ve captured....

the feelings of most of us on the forum.

By the way I didn't get to see the useless top ten list H1 put up, damn sure i'd have been on it, but would consider it a badge of honour /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
