I am just about to clean off the hull for the coming summer. I have been looking at ceramic coatings which are very expensive. Has anyone tried these and if so which one and did it work? Thanks

Is ceramic coating OK for fiberglass?
What is the downside to ceramic coating?
Disadvantages of ceramic coating include the potential for scratches and water spots, high costs, and the need for professional installation. Several layers of liquid polymer and other strong materials create a powerful coat, but nothing can protect a car against everything.2 Nov 2020

Why not use an epoxy barrier coat?

Ceramic coating as in posh polish?

Sailing fair Isle recommended some in one of their videos. Seemed ludicrously expensive, but they seemed happy with it.

I’ve seen three boats polished with this. Economical to use, I’ve polished three cars, one boat and still have loads left. HYBRID SOLUTIONS CERAMIC POLISH & WAX 500 ML

I cut with Farecla G3 first as I had some chalking. Others have used it one step. Easy to use by hand or better by machine, Meguiars do something similar, visit your local Halfords.

Seems a misnomer to me - Ceramic implies heat, a lot of, conversion of one mineral (clay) to another, mullite, or thermal diffusion - the heat treated product being significantly stronger than the original.

Supposed to last longer than wax and may protect the gelcoat better.
Meguiars have started doing a hybrid wax which looks quite good and is (apparently) easy to apply.
i’m going to try it when I run out of polish and have to buy some more…

I have used it after very carefully cleaning and then cutting and polishing with Farecla Profile system to get to a high gloss finish (three different levels). I followed the advice of 'MarineReflections' who is an expert boat polisher and used to post on here.
I used Gtecniq "C1 Crystal Lacquer' and used their cloths and applicators (but you can use cheapo make up circular wipes) and was impressed at the time and almost a year later (when I sold her).
I will do it again with the current boat when I haul her out.E6DBE689-767E-42F6-9EBD-104D3778E471_1_105_c.jpeg96A67FC6-FBE5-4F0B-997E-456B2E96BB17_1_105_c.jpeg

Do you still use it and what do you think now about it.

Hi Seastroke,
I hauled the replacement boat for the first time this winter but my plans for a hull polish and ceramic treatment got diverted by 'reasons' and I wont be able to get it done before she is chucked in again (end of this month).
I would have no hesitation in using it again and it is super easy to do, the hard bit is the prep depending on the state of the hull to begin with (no different to wax).
My current boat floats below the designed waterline towards the stern and picked up a lot of long-term weed/stain on and around the actual waterline and was unsightly. I will probs give this a little polish but definately put ceramic on that area as I think that will seal the surface well and help stop this from getting a hold.
We also are making plans to get her hauled and polished in Guernsey on our summer trip (we will leave her there so may as well haul her and get the work done :) ) and I will hopefully then go along after and add the ceramic before she is put back in.
All a long way of saying I will still definately use it having seen how it worked on the last boat, albeit only for a full year.

Just checked and I bought 2 x 50ml Gtechniq C1 Crystal laquer (it was about £58 each on Ebay at the time ). I had a modern 29' raggy (reasonable high topsides and wide stern) and had about half a pot left.
I also bought the Gtechniq MF4 microfibre cloths, which are high quality.

A couple of years ago, I used a number of Gtecniq products, including their polisher and the crystal laquer. I'd bought a boat with very faded red gelcoat, and as it was getting thin in places, I didn't fancy repolishing with the usual waxes on a regular basis.
Hence I did just one big cut and polish to get it back to dark red and then went with the Gtechniq stuff. It worked really well - looked amazing for the first year and pretty good for the second. After that, I only needed to do the lightest of polishes and then reapplied. Would definitely consider again if I didn't now have a painted white boat (which I kind of ignore now!)
