Centrifugal Clutch On Honda Outboard

I have the twist grip model with the centrifugal clutch.

Although I have adjusted the tick over circuit screw on the carb and throttle stop screw, I have never managed to start the engine without the prop turning to some degree. After the engine has warmed up the clutch seems to work ok . I have mentioned this to other owners and they seem to have the same problem.

The handbook information is minimal and would very much welcome any advice.

Many Thanks,

I had exactly the same problem. My local Honda service agent (DM Marine, Falmouth) sorted it whilst curing another fault. In my case, the agent who had replaced the tube containing the throttle cable (a warranty job on earlier models) had misadjusted the cable meaning that I could never get full power. After having been set up correctly, the engine now starts cleanly from cold with the mark on the twist grip mark set at the tortoise's head or front feet. Setting it at the start symbol means loads of power and a rotating prop'. Good luck.
