Centre Cleat on merry fisher 795

Why do you need one ? It’s a short enough boat to get away with a spring line from the bow or stern cleat . If the boat needed a mid ship cleat then Jenneau would have fitted one at the factory .

Just secure the stern line and leave the engine in gear slightly, this will bring the bow into the pontoon and hold it there until the boat is secured.

If you have access to the inside of the gunnel then you can. Use as large a backing plate as possible. Check how the other cleats are attached. If it looks like they have extra layers of fiberglass then you should do that as well.

I but a mid ship cleat on MF805 and i drilled the holes and then tapped them with a M8 dye and fixed the cleat down with treaded bolt as there was no way i coud get to the underside .

Hi,
New here and need some advise on how to fit a centre cleat to my merry fisher 795 is this possible

thanks
Hi Dave

I've just fitted one to the port side of my 795 (starboard will follow). It was a bit fiddly, given you need to get the backplate, washers and nuts onto the legs of the cleat, which means getting between the outer and inner skins of fibreglass. After about an hour of trying I decided to cut two 32mm holes on the inner skin for access and used a socket to get the nuts on. I wish I'd done this to start with as it took minutes. You can't see the holes unles you lie on the floor, but I'll get something to cover them anyway. The starboard side will probably be similar once I've removed the throttle panel for access.

I wanted centre cleats to make single handing the boat easier, ie being able to lean out the window to tie on. That's the plan anyway. I haven't tried yet as I'm a bit of a novice. It looks like the new 795 comes with centre cleats now.

I have an antares 780 and often thought a centre cleat would be a useful addition, however there is a raised toe rail that would need to be engineered around. o it would be another thing to stub my toe on!
