censured over seagulls - I am honoured

whot you dont get is i like my old seagull,
that rainbow effect on the morning tide
that nice rasp of exhoust at six in the morning as i leave the marina
the phut put phut put as you wait for it to shut down as you hang on for grim death
always makes me smile

They named it well...

Every seagull pollutes the water. They also pollute decks, pavements, outboard cowls, cars and anything else the miserable sods can land and cr4p on. The outboards are VERY well named, but best used as anchors.

Even better if you chain two of them together. This allows you to swing in the tide and they still hold fast. You can also tell where your 'anchor' is by following the oil trail.

Well Dylan i would say that your nuclear/dirty coal fired power station powered torpedo electrification thing is actually worse producing more and longer lasting pollution than seagulls [Think dangerous nuclear and no where to put the extremely dangerous lethal waist not to mention the massive amounts of greenhouse gasses and acid rain produced by coal fired power stations]
Also i know for a certain fact that my little seagull [that already is about 30 years young]
will for certain outlast your ugly torpedo monstrosity having at least another 30 years left in it
He will now say that his ugly electrification nuclear/dirty coal powered torpedo thingy only ever runs on clean wind power...:)
But seriously have i not brought up some valid points you may not of thought of?

Well I can't speak for dylanwinter, I wasn't aware that he had bought a Torqeedo.
Very interesting computer that you are using, how is it powered ?

Oh i have a Nuclear and dirty coal powered computer ...perhaps also a tiny smidgen of wind generated unless its too windy as then they turn the wind turbines off...:/

I think it is a good email

and I was very pleased to get it

and it puts the case in favour of seagulls as well as anyone I have come across

of course I think he is wrong on a few points

I have never seen anyone use a drip catcher when flooding the carb - I am not saying no-one does it - but I personally have never seen a seagull user catch the drips

the point about the energy involved in making the seagull and the new engine is true(ish) - except we now live in a world where old seagulls will get re-cycled

for me it is about point pollution and taking seagulls up creeks and into envieonmentally sensitive salt marshes

I have always understood that a two stroke throws more crud into the water than a four stroke

my wheelie bin experiemnts would suggest that is true

mind you.... maybe I have never run a perfectly set-up Seagull

Dylan

What would you do with the "drips" anyway ?? Chuck them away ??

I love my seagull which is 40yrs old now. I've only ever used it in a tidal estuary and I don't believe the pollution it produces has a long term effect on the environment. Experience of major oil spills has shown that the sea recovers from such events more quickly than predicted and the few millilitres of oil produced by a seagull in the sea is quickly broken down and absorbed.
Another factor in assessing the overall pollution effect is the longevity - how much pollution is saved by not having to re-manufacture a replacement every 5 years? Seagulls never wear out - unlike modern ( admittedly more efficient) designs.

We called them pets. Cos you mostly row while they sit self-importantly at the stern. ;)
