Does anyone know a source of the "faux leather" foam backed coverings that boat builders use.
Preferably the coverings that Princess use.

If you want it to match you probably need to go through the Boat builder.

Generally the wooden backing panels can be reused.

Alternatively do a complete cabin or say all ceiling panels in one cabin in new and a mismatch is not so obvious.

The problem that we have has just manifest itself.
A couple of panels neat the patio doors have started to sag.
Quite strange - only happens when the humidity is very high and a couple of hours with the A/C on tightens up the fabric.
Also only when the pressure is low and the sea level is high - seems ok under normal conditions.
I guess this is just the beginning and we will need to replace the fabric.

We have removed a panel from the lower deck and it matches the colour of the panels near the patio doors.
So there doesn't appear to be any fading and replacement fabric shouldn't look out of place.

I am pretty sure that the original panels were made by Lang and Potter so I will be taking the small panel home with me to match the fabric.
So, I expect that I will need to make a trip to Lang and Potter in Plympton to source the fabric.

But - maybe someone on this forum has had the same experience and will know the original manufacturer.

The Princess next to us (a P58) has the same problem but on a bigger scale.
They have decided to source the fabric from MBS Fabrics in Windsor.

MBS are the distributor for Sunbrella - they supply MJB Boats (Martin - the guy who several people on here use for cushions).
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to buy from MBS - they only sell to the trade.
That said, I have seen some of the samples that MBS stock and I don't think that they supply Lang and Potter.

It would be good to track down the original manufacturer.

I’m confused why you’re asking. You have a good relationship with princess and they must know surely? Or is there more to it?

Yes - Princess are always helpful.
Just trying to find the original manufacturer of heading used by Princess/Lang and Potter.
Or a distributor.
I have got time - don't need to replace right now but, you know me, I like to have the spares for when I DO need it.

I got some samples but none were anything like my original material. The stuff was OK just not a match in my case.

I ahd a similar problem on my boat, the vinyl material has a thin layer of foam between it and the deck head panels. This foam had degraded and crumbled therefore holding nothing and sagging. I hoovered the foam crumbs off and using spray adhesive reattached the vinyl directly to the panel and it looks perfect. I suspect this will need to be repeated everywhere eventually. I'm not sure if this is your problem but my be with investigating.

MBS (0172 Cream) is the best match that I have found for my boat (2002 Targa 34 in case anyone doesn't know!).

BUT, Spradling have two collections; "Marine" and "Marlin" that were a very close match and should also be on anyone's list for colour matching.

Hurricane, I have a spare set of samples for Spradling and can send them to you if you give me your address.

Very slow progress on this one.
I have contacted Lang and Potter who have been helpful.
From our yard and slot numbers, we were able to track down the ceiling fabric product details.
It seems that it is called:-

Safari Primasuede
Manufactured by Majilite

Lang and Potter don't have any left - stopped using it a long time ago.
I am waiting for them to get back to me to see if they can source any.

So, if anyone knows of any other routes I could explore, I would be very interested.

I'm sure that most Princesses of our "vintage" would have used that exact fabric.
There is a P58 next to us in SC with exactly the same problems and the same fabric.

I re did mine last time I was down in alcantara.

Given it will all be knackered just replace the lot with the closest alcantara. They sell foamed and non foamed which is useful as some areas need the non foam product.
