CAV filters with glass bowl

It has been mentioned in another thread( sorry cannot find it) that CAV filters are made with the inlet passing via the filter then into the bowl. This seems to be a wrong design as it was pointed out that if the fuel really ought to enter the bowl first so sediment & water dropped own into the bowl.
If one changes to the other pair of inlet/outlets will that correct it or does one sort it with the fuel flowing the opposite way to the direction indicated by the arrows?
Anyone know?
 
Do you not think that perhaps there was some thought put into their design and they flow that way for a reason? Fine droplets of water passing through the filter combine into large particles and settle out in the bowl. If you reverse the flow the larger droplets will have nowhere to settle out.

Yes, I posted in the other thread that the reason the fuel goes through the filter first is to agglomerate any tiny water particles into dropletswhich will settle out in the glass bowl. As you don't seem to believe this, take a look at this CAV document...

I did not disbelieve you. I could not find the post nor remember the exact details of it . I was just seeking a bit more info plus guidance on the connection points which you have kindly supplied

The point which seemed to get missed in the original thread is that water does collect in the bowl, it's dirt that doesn't because it gets trapped in the filter instead.

Dirt gets into the bowl, albeit fine sediment, i have seen it. But of course that is why we have a second filter
Presumably the first filter is a coarser filter & the second must be much finer.
Which now poses another point
If one buys non Volvo filters( yes i have a volvo ) should one quote a reference for how fine the filter element should be.
For example , on my engine it is quite easy to mix oil & fuel filters as the fitting is the same
So when buying filters what is the grade of filter( for want of a better description) for the 2 filters
