Having previosuly had a spin on fuel filter/water separator by Vetus, I've got a CAV filter in the new boat.

I've yet to replace the filter (before retirement when I was cash rich time poor the yard did it!) but I'm sure it's easy enough and I'll find out in the next week or so. However, I've seen mention of a spin on conversion. There are some on the net I found by googling. Do forumites have any recommendations? I quite like having a tranparent bowl to see if any water/crud needs draining.

Any advice welcomed.

I've got a spin on conversion kit for the CAV, with transparent bowl, from ASAP supplies.

This makes changing the filter/agglomerator a doddle.

The filter elements (Parker/Racor S3216T) are somewhat expensive, though.

I would change the head unit for a more modern Delphi (Lucas/CAV) one which accepts standard Delphi spin on filters as used on vans, land rovers etc. The new heads are the same size as your current one and, with careful selection, have the correct threads. The head will cost £8.40 and the pukka Delphi filters £7.20 from

who will also give good advice
no links etc

I have a spin-on CAV conversion from ASAP (poss the one JayBee mentioned): it uses Racor filters, and has (plastic) sight bowl plus easy-to-use drain. Changing filters is a doddle. Only downside is the cost of Racor filters. I've no direct experience of the Delphi spin-on set-up, but it may be more cost effective.
