CAV filter change

I fitted the ASAP converter mentioned in an earlier post to take Racor spin on filters and have never regretted it. My concern about the CAVs was that they were not too much of a problem when changing in the marina or any stable environment , but on a dark night in a seaway with a dead engine ........

The RAcor filters are more expensive but I think they are worth it. I change mine at the start of every season, which some may think is profligate but I look upon it as insurance and an essential part of engine maintenance. The cartridge engine mounted filter I change every other season.

Mine is above below tank level so is under negative pressure and needs to be well tightened to prevent air ingress. In line with and before the CAV I have one of those inverted trucated cone type separators that seems to remove a certain amount of gunk and keeps the CAV fairly clean. Only need to change it about every two/three years depending on usage.
