I nipped down to see Forbsie today and he showed me a caulking mallet that he thought was a cool tool .
So i nipped back to the workshop and made him a really cool caulking mallet /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One of the less obvious features of a caulking mallet is a slot in the central square-sectioned part of the head. Two holes are drilled through the head near the point where it changes to a circular section. The slot is a narrow saw-cut between the holes. This causes the head to open up fractionally along the slot when it strikes the caulking iron, which takes some of the shock which would otherwise be passed to the caulker. The holes, of course, prevent the slot from continuing and splitting the head in half.

The caulker i saw had the holes and saw cut in the turned section and buffers on the end . Still i just turned it for fun its up to Forbsie to make it work /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
