This type of dog is designed to be invisible on a sea grass beach and then attack you

Yeah! Lick you to bits....

Thanks for stirring up the memories! I hitch-hiked to Cassis from Glasgow in summer 1967, with girlfriend. We pitched my Blacks mountain tent on a small grassy site just above the town, found a small restaurant on a terrace run by a young couple who made us very welcome, and had a superb week.

I/we had an afternoon trip on a dive boat into one of the calanques. I'd taken a SSAC Second Class Diver training ( no big deal ) which permitted me to go down with a group to, oh, 30-40 feet where I was astonished by the bright light, the colours - and all the fish! I'd previously experienced the likes of Loch Long in February drizzle - cold, dank and fifty shades of grey! That calanque experience spoiled me for diving in UK waters forever....

The other memory stirred was the heady scent of Ambre Solaire on a well-tanned g/f.... and the beauties in bikinis. Town Beach at Ayr just didn't compete.

We are visiting a friend in Lucca in August (by car) and you have reminded me of a boat stop over we had there a decade or so ago.
We will make a nostalgic drop in on our way past.
My goodness! hotels are expensive on the coast in your part of the world.

Gorgeous place. I was there when I visited La Ciotat to look at a boat a few weeks back. Met up with a few boaters who were very keen to show me round theirs. Ate in La Vieille Auberge, delicious sardines and with a lovely view of the marina.
My planning for my French trip initially had me stopping at Port Napoleon then going west to Canal Du Midi but i think I will visit Cassis and others near there
