I was in a marina in FLorida once with a line up of Carvers, the sales mechanic was a Brit so kindly let me spend a couple of hours going over them without being hassled by a salesman. I really liked the layout of the 56 footer, it was refreshing to see an alternative and original layout compared to the traditional layout offered by the majority of builders, and I have always been a fan of aft cabin layouts due to the privacy enjoyed by sleeping at opposite ends of the boat. The build quality was as good as many and they were using vacuum cured and cored hulls long before Princess and others were. I didn't like the highgloss woodwork which seems popular over the pond but the fit and finish was good and the galley was better than you find in many homes. They have made some horrendous boxy boats but the ones I liked were very european in design.
Thats the one I spent the most time on and would be my first choice if buying a boat in that size just because its so different inside, I love the Sky Lounge and Captain Kirk helm with curving stairs around the front of the console. Admittedly its only got a master suite and VIP cabin and a small childs cabin cum office, but I could never see the point in dragging more bedrooms around than the average house when they are used so little, I much prefer living space. Same thing with the 36 Mariner is also an interesting layout giving one good cabin and a sofa bed in the saloon, definitely a boat for a couple. Instead of cramming as many berths in as possible more emphasis is given to living space which makes sense seeing how little time the cabins are actually occupied.
