Not as in giving Mr B a bollocking ... I can do that without any help.

No the problem is entirely different. He keeps whingeing that I'm wrecking the heels of my shoes on the pontoon and suggests that I wear my boat shoes to the car each morning and change shoes in the car.

Two problems with this. Firstly, it would mean having to keep my entire shoe and boot collection in the car, so I can be certain of having the right shoes for the right outfit. Secondly, boat shoes look shite with a jacket and skirt work-type dress !!!

So my solution is for Mr B to carpet the pontoon from Tommy all the way to the jetty. The advice I need from the panel is which carpet to use. It will obviously have to be waterproof and I have no expertise in this field. Then, having chosen make/pile/shag etc., what colour should it be? Blue is very marina-ery, but I rather like red. Should it be plain or pattern. Plain would show all the marks don't you think?

...... and who should vacuum it ?

I knew I could rely on you for sensible advice. Everyone else will try to make light of my request for help. So to avoid friction burns to the nose, do you think I should give the shag pile a miss ?

Typical woman's solution! What you clearly need are two carpet tiles approx. eight inches square with a loop of elastic stitched onto them. Each morning you choose a suitably elegant pair of shoes to finish off your outfit, put them on and then stand on your carpet tiles loop the elastic over your shoes and off you go!

Russell - you are such a bloke !!! I might as well wear the blimming boat shoes if I follow your advice. 10/10 for logic but nil points for creativity and presentation xx

How about a rickshaw then, pulled by a David Ginola lookalike clad only in a thong, you step aboard and he thunders off down the pontoon all rippling thighs and heaving buttocks, should put a smile on your face to start the day?

What you need is coconut matting. It''ll withstand the elements shrug off most stains apart from oil. It wont hold water when it rains and still be "grippy" in a frost. Also be cool underfoot in the summer.

Well! It , the carpet, will have to be changed each day/part of day, to match your outfit, you just cant have red carpet with blue shoes!! Oh! No! ghastly! The only thing for it is either black or white carpet, maybe Squares of each, I realise red would be in keeping with your status, but it just doesnt go with much, now does it? As for hoovering, get that lazy husbandof yours to hoover it when he hoovers the rest of the boat. simple. Or as suggested a rickshaw, very useful, as we found out last TCM party!! Nice to hear from you, you were sorely missed!
