I am unable to locate any foam backed carpet for my boat.
february magazine mbm suggests using this to tart up the inside of the boat as it reduces condensation. a local carpet shop has advised me that it is no longer available something about an eu ruling. due to fire risk ie: rubber burning.
Does anyone know where i can get some in Glos.
Roll on summer!!.

As its no longer legal you should be able to get it on the BLACK CARPET.
Seriously you should be able to get hold of off cuts to fit you boat from carpet shops.

Every off cut carpet warehouse I went into yesterday had tons n tons of the stuff.
Where you bin looking. They also now have some sort of felt backed stuff which is supposed to be replacing that foam backed muck which soaks up water nicely, then enables carpet to fill your boat with interesting but untracable smells during summer months. Its also keeps surrounding wood nicely moist all year room to enable it to go rotten faster.

Oooh look its still not dark and its nearly 5pm

Our flooring carpet on the boat is felt backed and works well, it came from Carpet Right. It's a swine to cut and it took me ages to find that a stanley knife made it worse, Sharp scissors work wonderfully!
Wouldn't use it as headlining though, I'd probably find some needle cord from a car trimmers for that.

I agree with Old Git here, I re-carpeted my boat at the end of last season, keep ringing around, you will find some sooner or later.
good luck

It dont seem to matter what carpet you use on a boat. It all looks crap after a couple of years. Except Foam backed looks crap after a fortnight. That felt backed stuff is ok for a few months, thats if you can cut it straight and happen to have a big sharp pair of sissors in the boat tool chest. I had an axminster one before that and the fluff kept coming out of it long after it had got dirty.

Use GRADUS PACIFIC obtainable from Flooring Contractors, impervious backing
and Flame retardent. Used in Hospitals and Nursing Homes and designed to cope with spillages and other nasty happenings !!!!!. We have used successfully on our boat. If you need any further info email.

you should always use the best carpet you can afford. and the beauty of having a boat is that it's so much smaller than your house, you can afford to pay much more per metre. As far as carpets are concerned, as with most things, you get what you pay for

That's sorted then, I stick to bare floorboards.
Our floor is such a strange slope that I'd hate to fight good quality carpet into some of the shapes I had to. Master plan is, if it looks shabby in a year or so then I'll just replace it.
Big problem was the boatyard not lashing the porta potti down before they delivered it! So they paid for what we've got....
