They really lucked out. They are using the old World Service aerial on the orford cobra mist site. (Their frequency is the same as the old World Service). Nice of the BBC to leave them a ready tuned very expensive aerial and transmitter Hall!
Not using the aerial on Ross Revenge?
Where can you still see the Radio 390 logo and where did Radio Sutch transmit from. ?
decent signal over here in Kent on the car radio
wonder what erp they are using 10w 100w ???
Was having a chat about this Peter Moore, who owns Radio Caroline, over a pint or two yesterday evening in my local.
He told me that by far the most most successful of the Thames Estuary pirate stations was Radio London which I remember became my own choice (Kenny & Cash, Emperor Rosko, Stuart Henry etc).
'Big L' was based on the MV Galaxy which was originally the US Navy minesweeper 'Density' (no- not a typo). Apparently the ship was unusual in having two engine rooms, separated by watertight doors in case one was damaged by a mine......
Yes we still did. Light Program morphed to became Radio One after the pirate DJs were employed by BBC in 1967.
Isn't it ironic that the audio quality of AM Long and Medium wave broadcasts, is just as good, if not better than the lamentable DAB, that the government and the BBC try to ram down our throats at every opportunity.![]()
