Carnage on Ryde Sands in this year\'s Round the Island...?
I predict that there will be more than the usual number of boats aground on Ryde Sands during this year's Round the Island Race.
Firstly because the Fort is no longer a mark of the course, lots of boats will come up the island shore in shallow water and then get caught in the Trap - the eastward facing deeper water U shaped "bay" in the sands...
...and now, as of today, NE and SW Mining Ground buoys have both been removed from station. I always made use of them to guage where the edge of the sands were. This will now be much more difficult!
Except I guess for those in the second half of the fleet who will have the shape of the sands marked out by boats aground!
Should make an interesting race...
