I've lucked in to a pair of Dubarry Ultima boots at our local charity shop. The Dubarry website is nice & clear about how to look after them, but being a 'shoestring' sailor I baulk at paying more for a set of official care products than I paid for the boots.

What are your top tips for care products? What cleaner and waterproofing?

I'm currently think along the lines of Nikwax ...

For waterproofing leather boots I have just used beeswax.
I melt the wax and then apply by cloth. It solidifies very quickly once applied to the boot and goes white. Once the complete boot is covered, then use a hot aire gun to remelt the wax and rub it into the leather, seems to work a treat.
Think there are some youtube video's showing how this is done.
Might be lucky like me and know some local beekeeper.

I have a pair of dubarry -it’s not the uppers but the rubber heel which wil start to decompose first -I know there is a repair shop but rather sad when the heels fail .

Lucky you !
All that my charity shops have are tatty dress shoes !

I also heard the soles wear out first, so am only wearing my new set on or around the boat, and not to the marina pub !

At the risk of driving people mad at the thought of cheap Dubarry boots being found sitting in a charity shop. They have also been recently resoled. I've read up on scuffing them to active the grip, we shall see....

While looking for deck shoes for my wife, I once found a pair of excellent Team New Zealand boots ( that fitted me) in TK Max!

best thing is to wear them and get them wet now and again. Walk on rough surfaces now and again to stop em going smooth. Don’t leave em on the boat with a dehumidifier going. Other than that it’s like a car - use em all the time and they last
