Hi all,

Thinking of a change from the madness of the Solent (and the prices). Anyone have a view on Cardiff Marina? It has a lock so it clearly tidal...does the water outside completely try up or will our 24ft speedboat get in and out at all times?

Also what is it like around there, beaches? Polution? Big trade vessals?

Cheers in advance!

Regards,
T

Cardiff is tidal but I believe 24hr access is available!
Beaches few and far between, polution is hard to say as the water looks like oxtail soup due to the Severn flow!
Big trade vessels not a lot!
Try an hour west at the marina I use at Burry Port, ok its on a tidal flap so access is 2.5 hrs either side of top water but the Gower can be reached within 20 mins and tenby is a 30/40 jaunt accross Carmarthen bay.

Thanks for the info. Is that 24hr access from the bay, so basically I can come in and out at any time without tidal issues?

Also, what about Barry, Weston Super Mare and Burnham on Sea for beaches? Can people anchor there?

it's like just over 1K for a year on the dry stack there for me. It's 3.4K in the Solent, no brainer really, bit longer in the car, what's it like driving there? Might just do it and see I guess.

Ballistix, thought your tub was up for sale?? Hasn't moved off the work rack all year.

You want to get the costs down try Southsea Marina. I have a few friends there and will prob only cost £2k for a water mooring.

Thanks guys,

DAC, not my Ballisix, it's in my Barn since November...but true, not move, been stroking/cleaning. Don't want it in the water full time, especially on the Solent area..

KDS, thanks for that info, just to be clear, 2hrs either side of high you are OK to get how close to the beaches there? So we have 4-5hrs tops at those beaches? Just want to be clear /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks!

There are other places to visit to. And you have mermaid key, you can moore up pay £1 per hour, and you have shops and bars etc great place to hand out.

Cardiff might be ok, if you've never been anywhere else. After the Solent. you could be very disapointed.

You cant just swan off to some where like Yarmouth, or go to a beach. Well not without looking at the second finger on your watch all the time.

I'd have a good look round there before deciding.

Yeah seems it might be a bit restricting. I'm basically just a bit peed off with MDLs prices frankly. We are on the dry stack and I don't want to keep spending 3.5K a year, especially for this year. Looked at Southampton Dry stack which is down the itchen but don't mind that, I quite like shooting up the Southampton water.

Anywhere else with a dry stack closer to 2K a year, Portsmouth area maybe??

Cheers
T

Portishead would save you about 1 hrs drive. In mobo you could easily visit loads of good places. First little trips could be Cardiff,Bristol, Gloucester etc. If you do come book up for Bristol harbour festival....its great.
