I want to get one surveyed that I plan to buy. Is there anyone out there who can help with this?

From a surveying perspective its nothing special. Any surveyor that can survey grp can survey carbon
The focus is completely different. CRP is less tolerant of over stress and impact. Note the MCA have a specific recommendations regarding carbon fibre masts:

NDT testing of carbon hulls is a routine protocol. Not so of glass, where it is rarely done, so NDT capability is required.

I'd call Saunders Morgan Harris because their office is in HYS Port Hamble which full of modern race yachts and because I believe they have NDT capability.

Ooh. It’s not that Shipman 50 in Spain/Portugal that I’ve been drooling over is it ?
I know a guy who had the larger Shipman. He was on the ARC around the world rally. He goy as far as the Caribbean and decided the boat was too hairy for taking his family around the world. He cancelled the around the world trip. He is a big racing guy who basically bought the wrong boat. In rough weather they struggled to control the boat

I know two Shipman 63 owners that do ocean sailing as couples and others that delivered them, they all love them. Did your guy not know how to reef?

He is an accomplished sailor. You are suggesting he is a numpty which is quite wrong. He made the decision for good reason. Lightweight flat bottomed carbon boats are not great cruisers, in his opinion. You need plenty of crew, in his opinion.

In rough weather and well reefed I can’t see why that boat would be a struggle to control. Many racing boats are far more extreme. It makes no sense. He has good reasons for him and if it is his opinion then and that’s fine. Others I know thought the opposite and in general fairly light flat boats are the main boats in production, mostly glass, but sometimes carbon (the Shipman is a mix) and they generally sail the world’s oceans perfectly well. Of course with pros and cons. Some high end builders build only carbon flat bottomed boats that cruise the world well. Southern Wind in particular. Also most larger Swans and others.

Most larger Swans are crewed, not sailing with a family crew. I did a delivery on a 72ft racer cruiser last year.there was just four of us onboard. All experienced crew. That boat needed all four of us to carryout a tack, reef or gybe. For long ocean trips they sail 5 up. Proffessional crew
