Re: no BMW here

I'll keep mine in a garage - not too sure it would work on the deck of my boat. But agree on the climate bit.

Re: no BMW here

no frilly bags, no silly helmet and not middle aged! And not searching for the rest either. Just having fun.

It's just horses for courses - when it's time to scare myself silly (or attempt to get into London in less than 2 hours in the morning) then the firblade soes the trick. When I don't need the adrenalin rush then maybe the Harley.

I recently though I should get rid of one but just couldn't decide which so they both stayed. Lots's of sports bike riders slag off harley's and vice versa but as someone who has actually owned both then I think there is definitely a place for each.

That plus Pauline's reaction isn't that rare.........

Re: no BMW here

No offence, Stewart. I've always fancied a Harley myself actually and have tested a couple but I cant bring myself to spend £15k on a bike that wobbles above 60mph, scrapes its pegs at any angle greater than 2deg and does'nt appear to have any brakes! Maybe this new V-Rod (now, thats a looker!)will be the first of some decent Harley road bikes. Make mine a Road King with V-Rod underpinnings, please Santa

Grand Jeep thingie - eats BMW 5 series for breakfast
MK1 Stag - classic British motoring does not get any smoother
Hybrid Mountain bike - can't get to it too many cars
Lawn mower - easy to get to unfortunately
Piaggio 50cc Liberty - mistake was supposed to be station bike but the Jeeps always closer. Besides I've lost the key, how am I supposed to get it out in a hurry. Look it might rain - can you see me in a helmet - I look like a matchstick.
2.5 HP Skate-board - Drunk in charge of a credit card - nuff said.

Also wants:
944 S2 Convertible
Westfield
Jaguar XJ8

1986 XJS, 73,000 miles. Done 23 in last four years. Anyone want to make me an offer. (If I can't sell the boat might as well try the car.)

Oh and a 16ft Picton speed boat with 55HP Mariner electric start O\B, on Snipe trailer. That's for sale too

Re: There is only one classic any boaters need

It's a Land Rover
Mine is a 110 county station wagon
But it has a Mazda 3.5 turbo diesel fitted
heavy duty springs winch and so on
I have never found any other 4 wheel drive to match Land Rovers
The parts are cheap and you can get them any where

I have expensively ridded myself of Ferrari 456, Jag XK8, Lotus super 7, Moto Guzzi, Merc SL over the past five years, rgretting losing only the Citroen CX GTi, altho all required too-close rlationship with the AA. So now it's twin Merc engines: 430 estate for me and 430 clk for her. A load of strimmer-engined go-peds, lawmowers and the like.

Incidentally, for big boats we all have big petrols, exactly the opposite of conventional boaty wisdom. Can I have a large diesel please? Only Merc comes close with S-class 320 cdi. On the continent there's a 400 cdi, but Brabus apparently offer a souped-up version which does 0-60 in 6ish seconds, and top speed over 150.

Sadly our daft govt doesn't know what a car is, altho TB can ride a bicycle, the home sec nor the transport minster can drive, the chancellor has one eye so may not be allowed either, and the rest all skint so the ministerial crap Rover is the best car they'll ever have. So whilst the continent enjoys half-price diesel with monster mileage, diesels here a taxed extra and the fuel is a rip-off. How that for thread drift?

My Dad has just been over to the Merc Factory in Germany to pick up his new S320 CDI. Damn fine tractor but missing the starter handle.
Still I did tell him to buy British (well sort of) and buy the Bentley Turbo, but he went all silly on me with comments like "it will get scratched in car parks" Yeah it might but it would be worth it.
A mate of mine had a merc a few years ago and I asked him what the three pointed star in a circle was for, He told me it was a sight to line up targets. He then swerved towards a pedestrian and missed. Lucky I opened the back door and caught them a glancing blow or else he would have had to turn around and have another go !!!!!!
