I know that many of you guys are into classic cars as well as boats. Although not a classic, I think my car deserves a bit of a makeover in its 20th year.

Can anyone recommend a 'cheap' restorer to do some bodywork?

NO such thing as a cheap body restorer, the TR7 has just come back from Robsport and they're quite cheap for a restorer in the south @ £ 30 PH +VAT. The shell build alone was £ 10K. Forbsie, what car is is it & what does it require, that may help me to guide you.

Don't know of anyone - sorry. I do get a catalogue from this firm from time to time though and they do loads of stuff for doing up classic cars - hope this may help. Roy

Thanks for that, Jim. It's a Merc 280SL with a bit of rust (3sq in) coming through on the bonnet and a bit on one wheel arch. I could have a bash myself but when I tried that on my Wolesley 1500 in the early 70's, I made I right mess of it. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Forbsie, give Robsport a ring on +44 (01763) 848673 SImon or Rob tell em Jim Hearnden sent you.
Halcyon, mines been rebuilt from a crashed car, so it was a California shell shot balsted converted to RHD and then built up using mechanics from the old one. Unfortunately a series of improvements along the way have made it V expensive. Now professionally valued at £ 10K but cost over £16K. Could have brought a 7V8 forr less as £ 8K buys you the dogs doobries but decided for stupid sentimental reasons to do this one. Still cheaper than buying a TVR though. 7s generally aren't worth restoring as Sills alone are £ 1,200-1,500 done properly.
